Cooper 74 Newport 0 (Frosh)

Featured Replies

Who is the "they"?

Do you mean the incoming students who were still in middle school when the AD and Coach put the schedule together?

The Freshmen Coaches who are in a sense employees of the AD and Head Varsity Coach?

The parents of those freshmen who of course know more than anyone?

Cooper is taking baby steps as well as they should.

Get your Frosh to believe in themselves that they can win games, not get beat by older and better established programs like the varsity is now doing.

Your Frosh thinks they can beat anyone and that is great, but the reality is that at this point, I think if they were playing the schedule that your Varsity is, their record would be the same.

Starting from nothing to become a winning program takes time, you might not like that if your son is playing for Cooper at the moment, but it's want best at the moment for the school and the program.

How many times have you seen the Cooper Frosh play? I would guess none but I could be wrong as you normally don't make comments about other teams without seeing them first. I've watched Boone vs Conner and Cov Cath vs Conner and IMO Cooper Frosh record would not be the same as their varsity. Your best player has played with our boys for several years and we would know who to stop. Don't get upset with people being proud of their schools programs as you are of your Cov Cath program.:thumb:

Who cares how good this Frosh team is. Will they be as good when they are at the varsity level when it counts?

As far as the blowout. I don't see anything wrong with that.

If you have your foot on there throat. You keep it there till the game is over.

You are correct I have seen Cooper play (NCC), and you are also correct that you have a right to be proud of your team, but remember this, Freshmen change, sometimes not for the best.

A small kid who played with heart and gets beat time after time because of his size can put on inches and pounds during the summer after his Freshmen year, and when that kid gets the size to match his heart, then you have a player.

What am I talking about, well I have seen more than enough freshmen football games to understand that what you see from a Freshmen doesn't always turn out the same as a upperclassmen.

Good luck and let the kids have fun!:thumb:

Very well said and I agree and it's the same with all kids from all schools. It will be interesting to see if these kids have the work ethic to get stronger and better. Most of them play multiple sports so they will be in shape but will they all hit the weights? I hope they do.:thumb:

I don't blame Cooper for playing down but with that comes some responsibility. I would like to hear how Cooper ended up with 74 and a detailed explanation of how Cooper did not run up the score?

Totally disagree. The new school thing only applies to varsity, and only for a couple of years at a school this size. There is no reason a 6A school should be playing a Newport on the frosh level. What did this do to improve either team? Nothing!!

I think it is wrong that people get on here and bash the decision made by Cooper High School to play in a lower level on the freshman level. First off, no offense, but its Freshman Football, who cares? All that is supposed to be happening at this level is kids playing games and learning everything for their next 3 years on varsity. Second, when this schedule was decided on, IN FEBRUARY, there was no idea of who would be coming to play for Cooper, etc. Heck, there wasn't even a Freshman coach at this time. And for those who say that Cooper knew the talent that was coming to school the next year from the Boone County PeeWee System, I say that is hog wash. Last year, the Cooper freshman team got kids from the BCPWFL and I know they didn't win more than 1 game last season, and was not even in many of the games. If you want to bash Coopers Freshman Schedule, come on out to Cooper Thrusday night and watch them take on Scott County. Then maybe there wont be any more complaining.

By the many responses here, it seem like a lot of people care about frosh football. This is not Coopers first year, so any of this we didn't know stuff is hogwash. I'm simply amazed that anyone thinks this is OK

First off, get used to your school being bashed. There are people on here that simply live to bash other schools for just existing it seems. Personally, I could care less. With Cooper being in the class with Ryle, Boone, Conner and SK it will be tough.

Secondly, apparently you care and every other player, parent and coach involved with freshman football do. If I had time I would go to games, so I guess I care too.

The coach deal worked out great for Cooper. I am not saying he is the reason for the success, but he does a good job with the kids.

If you did not know the talent that was coming to Cooper from the BCPWFL you did not follow that league much. I do not have a kid in the league any more and I knew the talent that there was.

Best of luck the rest of the season, especially Thursday.

How about this idea: "Kids we're playing great and are winning big. I want you to fall on the ball on fumbles. No need to scoop and score. I want you to go to the ground or out of bounds on interceptions. I don't want you to field punts signal fair catch and let them roll. We are still gonna play hard! Any of you linemen want to try running back for the first time?"

That would be very classy and the right thing to do. It would teach the kids a great lesson about sportsmanship. Unfortunately some people think we should only teach our kids to score touchdowns, no matter what the score is.

See my above point about Cooper's freshman team the first year. These kids came from the BCPWFL and struggled, winning a game. Played the same competition as this year pretty much. I'm not saying that there is a lack of talent in the pee wee leagues because there is and i stay up to date with it. But how do you know in February if a kid is coming to your school, or going to boone, conner, ryle, beechwood, highlands, covcath, or newcath? A few of the better players for Cooper's freshman team weren't originally going to Cooper; they were either headed for beechwood or somewhere else.

It sounded worse than the way I meant for it to sound. The point I was trying to make is that on the freshman level you want your kids to be successful and begin learning what is needed for their next 3 years on varsity. It shouldn't matter who they are playing, and there is nothing that can be done about it so why is it such a big deal? Thats all I was saying:thumb:

Just to be clear on the BCPWFL, the kids in this league do not go to certain schools. There may be kids from all 4 high schools on a team in the BCPWFL. To say they did not play well is not fair.

I understand some may go to BW, CCH or elsewhere. These kids live in areas that say what Boone Co. school they go to. The only exceptions are those who go to CCH OR BW or have parents in the school system and can take that child to the school they teach at.

I am sorry, but to me, a lot of what you mention is more a slap in the face to the team you are playing in these blowout situations. All you can do is put in your reserves and run the ball on offense. On defense you go in to a base set with no blitzes and back up your DBs a couple more yards.
