Tonights game certainly wasn't a good showing for SK. I will give them credit for not folding under pressure, they showed alot of heart and grit out there but still made too many mistakes. The 1st half SK didn't look like they were at all u p for the game, not sure if it was because of the fumble to start the game, but they didn't come out fired up. Henry Clay is very fast, but also makes alot of mental mistakes, hopefully by seasons end they can fix those. As it stands I'm not sure that either team is top 5 in 6A, but both are definitely top 10.

I was disappointed in SK, they dropped a very winnable game. Fumbled the opening kickoff and spotted HC 7 to start the game then fumbled the punt after they closed to within a TD of the lead. HC's speed is overrated, SK had just as much talent on the field but failed to execute. Anyone who was there saw that the SK defense shut down the jet sweep and outside running game at times but did not play with intensity on defense for the entire game. Penalties and turnovers were the difference, I still think SK has a legit shot at returning to the title game if they are firing on all cylinders.

 

SK is much faster than they have been but if HC's speed is overrated, then I want to be overrated. Once HC got past the first level they made SK pay with big run after big run. The real season starts next week, the last two opponents SK has faced should be the fastest opponents they face in the regular season, and both utilized the spread which can only help SK. The Conner game should be a good one, I can't wait.

Henry Clay has a very speedy team. You just can't turn the ball over five times and expect to beat anyone. I don't know the official stats but I'm certain HC had 6, five yard penalties on first downs via false starts, and they still were able to move the chains. SK had some nice momentum in the 3rd quarter but the muffed punt pretty much ended their chances. One thing I didn't understand, why did Simpson chose to go for two when HC took a 15 point lead? I thought that was a pretty gutsy move. Miles had one heck of a return for an 85yd TD, like my uncle stated, he's worth the price of admission.

 

If I'm reading this right and HC scored a touchdown to go up 15, the two-point conversion makes it a three score game. I'm guessing that would be why.

 

If I misread the post, or there was more to it than that, then I don't know.

I just think the safer play is to take the xp, and go ahead by a guaranteed two score lead. I like to play the averages, a 16 point lead gives you a cushion of two scores, a 15 point lead and you can be beaten with two scores. Like I said, gutsy, I wouldn't have done it but it didn't end up playing factor.

They were not only fast but made very sharp open field cuts. As stated elsewhere they overcame some very sloppy penalties. Their passing game was to throw short and let the receivers manuever, The better team won, but it was a sloppy, but exciting game.

Perhaps you watch too much NKY football and need to make it down to Lex or Lou to watch some teams that can run.

By the way while you were at the real game did you not notice the SK WR's beating HC defenders deep on multiple occations, if the Winkler kid catches those two deep balls it's a different game.

True that, but HHS is probably the only squad in NKY that has excellent team speed but even they saw better athletes vs Bryan Station last year. All I'm saying is if you watch some of these NKY teams plod around the field every week you lose your barometer for what speed looks like. I doubt that Male or Manual or St. X or Trinity or Bryan Station are enamoured with Clay's speed.

Given that District has to go through District 3 to reach the title game - and that district includes this team called St. X - it's going to be very, very tough for anyone from NKY to reach the championship game. And that's assuming SK is even the one to advance out of District, as I think both Conner and Ryle will have some input into that issue.

Henry Clay is the team to beat in Lexington. Congrats to the Blue Devils on a big win.

I don't recall HC's speed being a factor in last years playoffs against NKY opponents. They obviously have a good football team and may have a shot at advancing far into the playoffs. But I don't remember any Lexington school ever, being able to compete with Louisville top tier teams. Maybe NKY is closer to Lex than you thought??

The last would have been the '99 Bryan Station squad, they lost to St. X in the finals 34-31, that team also defeated Trinity 31-21 in the quarters.

 

I don't follow track and field but I wouldn't mind watching the Devils 4 x 100 unit, luckily the game of football isn't played on a track surface.
