When has HC every ran anywhere? From the sounds of the game, they were aided with fortunate turnovers and field position. I don't recall HC's speed being a factor in last years playoffs against NKY opponents. They obviously have a good football team and may have a shot at advancing far into the playoffs. But I don't remember any Lexington school ever, being able to compete with Louisville top tier teams. Maybe NKY is closer to Lex than you thought??

 

And Highlands would run circles around most Lexington schools! :dancingpa

They are starting first year varsity players at quarterback, running back, and two of the three receiver positions. I do not think the are a world beating team in Class 6A. I do think as these kids develop and get more experience, they can be a threat to go deep into the playoffs.

 

And yes......their speed in the skilled positions will present lots of match up problems for opponents, especially later in the year as some of this speed gains experience and has a better compass for where they are wanting to go on the football field.

Henry Clay went 13 and 0 and won the state at large championship in 4-A in 1981.

 

 

Boone did that in 1987. The at-large part that is and I think one other time.

All this is true! I have seen Henry Clay's young skilled position players at combines and showcases on the local and national level this year.

HC is already a top 6a contender for the 6a title this year and over the next two years there will be many sleepless nights for opposing coaches trying to figure a game plan to contain their great speed and skill!

I will say this! I have mentioned this kid in previous posts throughout the year.

If the Miller kid reaches around the 6'1" 185 lb range, he will not only be the best WR in the state but also one of the best WR's in the country!

I have seen some of the best underclassman this past summer (FLA,Texas,and Calf)and I am most impressed with Vinny Miller!(great speed,hands,quickness,routes and body control)

Having seen the film, I don't think Simon could have played worse. Henry Clay has speed but lack of execution was the problem not their speed. It all comes down to doing what you are coached to do. I certainly hope that Simon gets the chance to see Henry Clay again.By the way why does Highlands have to be mentioned in every SK thread?? I don't see SK being mentioned in the Highlands threads.

I must say, the defense seems to be coordinated better than in past years. The issue is defending a team that can pass the football. With all the speedy players they have, only one of them is in the defensive backfield.

 

Of the teams that Henry Clay might face in Kentucky Class 6A, I see one and a half teams who have the ability to effectively pass the football this season......Trinity (one) and St. Xavier (one half).

That is my fault. Some_guy was implying that there was not any speed in NKY. I was simply trying to defend SK by using Highlands as an example. But SK has speed too. So do a few other schools in NKY.

I think I have earned the right to answer that question, being a SK alumni with boys that will be going to Highlands. Most area schools in NKY were rooting hard for SK last year. Trust me, I know where the program has been and how far it has come. Get used to others invading your thread, I look at it as a sign of success. 20 years ago SK was like Scott an after thought. SK has a very good team this year and I think they will be fighting Ryle. I think Ryle is a hint better at this point, but Simpson certainly can tilt the scale. Good luck in your season as I do think both Ryle and SK are starting to build stronger programs. I think Ryle is further along in the younger ranks, but Ryle, SK being mentioned with CCH is not bad.
