Michael Crabtree

What a dumb move by Crabtree and his agent. No way he gets as much money next year, so I guess his plan has officially backfired.

If he doesn't put pen to paper soon, he won't get as much money in a month as he would today, IMO. If he doesn't sign within the next week or two, I can't see any way the 49ers don't decrease their offer.

Same thing I was thinking. He is depreciating like a used car.

I almost feel bad for him I don't think he is that intelligent. The NFL will go on without him. There is another Mike Crabtree probably waiting in the draft....

I hate the way this has turned out because Crabtree was one of my favorite players in college last year. It just kills me to see guys get drafted then act like this. I mean it really boils down to someone making like one or two more million on the season than him, when he would still be making the jack. Now he is putting his whole career at risk just over a rookie contract, when your second contract is normally the big one. With his pure athletic ability as a reciever, if he would have just came into camp ready to work and determined to make the 49ers a better team, then he could have possibly been the rookie of the year. Now after missing so much time, he may not even be able to learn the offense this season if he were to sign being that during the season you typically only have about three practices a week. If he sits a year then in no way will his skills be what they once were. You can say what you want but nobody that has had to sit out a year whether it be injury or not comes back the same. It's possible to still be good, but no big time player comes back better from missing a year. How he thought this was a good idea is well beyond me. This year with all the late holdouts just goes to show that in the new barganing agreement next year they need to incorporate a rookie pay scale similar to that of the NBA. That would solve all the rookie holdout and contract dispute problems.

I surprised the Niners haven't tried to just trade his rights

Why should they? They have all of the leverage here. Certainly they would like to have him playing, but everyday he sits he is losing money, money the 49ers don't have to pay.

And value the 49ers aren't getting out of their top draft pick.

When players are this dumb, pretty much everyone loses. I don't blame the Niners, but it hurts them too.

Each day he sits out he is losing money. If he sits an entire year that is brutal. One year of no contact.... 2nd or 3rd round pick.

Several million dollars that in all likelihood he will NEVER recover.

If he sits the whole year, and goes back into the draft, has this ever happened before? John Elway?

Bo Jackson did...

Bo Jackson did...

Of course, it's much easier to get away with it if you're a two sport star.
