This was not a cheer but I encountered a great motivator for a program here in Virginia.

 

In 2005 Amherst lost a Controversial game to perennial power Salem at Salem in the State Regional Final. (Kid caught a pass clearly out of bounds by two feet and was ruled a TD with about 1:10 to play and Salem won.)

 

The next year Amherst wore T-Shirts (as did their fans) that said:

 

TIME

1:10 4th Quarter

It's What You Make of IT !

 

They made quite a good use of that to win back to back state titles in 2006 and 2007.

Not that this is a big deal, but the Army war cry has no "R" in it. It sounds more like "Hooah" and is an acronym for Heard Understood Acknowledged. The Hoo-Rah is a Navy and Marine thing. Any one that has ever been in the Army will atest to versatility of this simple slang acronym. It can be used for just about anything.

 

I stand corrected, my back ground has to do more with the Marine Corp then Army, with that I apologize.

Another thing that is a new tradition at Bellevue is they sing the Fight song to the crowd after a victory.

...ohhh where to start.

 

I guess first off, the school motto is "With A Spirit That Will Not Die". That doesn't particularly get cheered often, but it does occur in the school fight song, which is sung at the end of the games, and usually shows up once or twice elsewhere during the game.

 

There's "WE WILL WIN [clap] WE WILL WIN [clap]"

 

There's the silent cheer, where everyone goes crazy but doesn't make a sound while doing so.

 

There's the roller-coaster cheer, where the entire student section goes through the organized motions of riding a roller coaster with their arms waving back and forth in the air.

 

There's the "

", where the one of the senior 'Colonel Crazies' stands out in front of the student section and throws punches in the air while the entire student section reacts as if they're all taking the punches. THey came up with that cheer when they played Apollo in the 2007 state basketball tournament, and it was such a big hit that it was written up in USA Today.

 

Then there are a whole slew of cheers done as inside jokes. They generally don't make much sense to other folks, but are fun for the "Crazies".

 

I think one of the most interesting cheers, though, is called "Kye Kye Kule" (pronounced "cha cha koo-lay"). It's a Ghanian call and answer cheer that somehow made its way into the Cov Cath repertoire years ago. No idea what it means, but it goes:

Kye Kye Kule (cha cha koo-lay)

 

Kye Kye Kofinsa (cha cha koh-vee-sah)

 

Kye Kye Kalanga (cha cha ka-lay-gah)

 

Kum Aden Nde (koom ah-dehn day)

 

Kum Aden Nde (koom ah-dehn day)

Well let me explain here, ''Oorah'' is the US Army's war cry, while ''Hoo-Rah'' is the Marine Corp's war cry. They both are form the military.

 

I retired from the army and am VERY familiar with "Oorah/"Hooah" variations.

 

The "Hoo-Rah" they (LC) uses sounds different from the Marine usage, though. There are some fans in the stands that use it that sound like wounded cattle when it gets going loud!:lol::ohbrother:

Cov. Cath has the greatest student cheering sections...something to behold!

Gotta love hearing that fight song after a big W.

Fort Campbell has the "You wish you were a Falcon!" cheer that usually comes after each touchdown.

A cheer started by a Dad of two former Falcons. The cheer involves the entire Falcon side of the stadium in unison screaming "You wish you were a Falcon" at all others on the opposing side of the field. Probably gets old pretty quick for the opposing team based upon the normal frequency of scoring at FC. The cheer is not just limited to home games, FC fans will out-cheer most crowds - even on the road!

The ROCK is HARD!!!

 

Obviously, Rockcastle County. In the late 80s, early 90s during the days of the old 49th District, we had a cheer that went--

Rock...is...harder than Clay,

Rock is harder than Clay (hey, hey, hey)!

 

Unfortunately, we never beat Clay County, but it made for a good cheer! :lol:

At Boyle County, one person will scream....."Who Ya With???" and then the crowd will say......

 

 

"REBELS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"

 

 

This is repeated about 4 or 5 times per sequence. We do this at least 3 times a game.

 

THis is the first one to come to my mind. It is really cool.
