Those of you who are insinuating that North Laurel's coaching staff is dirty couldn't be more wrong IMO.

Looks down, did not catch that during the game. Watch the 2nd Corbin kickoff where a corbin player(#9)makes a shoestring tackle on Waldrup, then focus on what happens to the Corbin player while lying on the ground. let me know if you see anything.

I had several people ask me to find pics or video to see if Mitchell's knee was down on the controversial play. Not that it really matters now, but his knee was absolutely down and that was another blown call, not even close. Much like the 15 yard against Corbin that should have been offsetting dead ball fouls. The refs didn't decide the outcome of the game and I don't want to give that impression, but they did let the emotions go unchecked far too often.

 

He never claimed that it would have changed the outcome of the game.

 

In fact he went out of his way to point out that Corbin was the better team.

You must have a major chip on your shoulder because worrying this much about a little ole' 5A school who hasn't won 10 games in 5 years is really causing you to stress out. What and why is Corbin that thrilled to death to schedule and rub in a win against a team far inferior to the Mighty Hounds. I guess it may be the future that is worrisome...:notworthy:

Hounds have a very strong team and may very well make the title game this year..........but how much longer will they be 2A? I know this year is the largest freshman enrollment ever and was told by a teacher from middle school that they have record enrollment there also.

There was a thread on this a while back, their enrollment currently has more than some 3A school now, but it is based on male enrollment and the discussions dropped, but I also believe they will be 3A in 2011. I just can't figure out where they will go, it has to be either District 6 or 8. District 5 is already loaded with 6 teams while the others only have 4. That would match them up with Breathitt County, Belfry and/or Sheldon Clark. A much tougher district than they are in now, they are in the easiest district in the state currently IMO and with only 3 district games to play.

Actually, that play in the pictures was on first down and resulted in another first down. The situation would have been different at 2nd and long as opposed to 1st and 10. BUT, the very next play was the TD pass from Mitchell to Fritts (I think). It may not have changed a thing. My only point wasn't that it made difference in the outcome, but that these refs were horrible. Not one sided, they were not cheating, ... they just missed far too many calls and let too much of the chippiness go on.

 

Didn't see anything, but the video I saw was zoomed in on Wardrup when he was tripped and he fell forward about 3 yards. The player who made the shoestring tackle was out of the frame. However, when it zoomed back out, there was some activity between some kids, but I couldn't tell where it started.

 

Having watched the game (thru the first part of the 4th quarter), there was plenty of chippiness going on. I actually saw several players with late hits and piling on for both teams that I missed during the game. I am more convinced now than ever that the refs could have stopped this activity early, but chose not to. I saw a kid from NL hit a Corbin player below the knees after the whistle on one play. On another, I saw a Corbin player dive into a pile after the whistle leading with his head. And I am convinced with the information I have on both coaching staffs that neither one teaches this type of activity.

 

Was there more chippiness from the North side? After watching it, I think there probably was. But I also saw players from both teams step in on more than one occasion to prevent a situation from escalating. Am I the only person who saw this? If we are going to talk about the bad, ... let's talk about the good as well.

 

The bottom line is that Corbin won, and deserved to win. Had North not had 2 fumbles and 1 interception in the first half alone, as they were moving the ball steadily on the Hounds, the outcome might have been MUCH closer and right down to the wire. But North didn't make the plays they needed to make and Corbin did. End of story. You cannot turn the ball over against a team like Corbin and expect to win. North won it's first 3 games because they rarely had turned the ball over and were definitely on the plus side of the turnover ratio. In this game, they were not.

 

I do think that both teams can take away a lot of positives from this game. I commend both coaching staffs for doing a great job with their team. :thumb:

Tell me where I said it made a difference in the outcome? However, we will never know what would have played out had it been called correctly. The situation changed from what should have been 2nd and long to 1st and 10. The next play was a Redhound touchdown. My point was simply that these officials were bad. In fact I pointed out at least 1 major penalty that hurt Corbin by not being called correctly.

 

And after watching the video, I am convinced now more than ever that North's turnovers absolutely killed them. You cannot turn it over against Corbin if you want to win. They were moving the ball against Corbin in the first quarter and a half MUCH better than Corbin was moving it against them. But 2 fumbles and an interception in the first half alone against Corbin was HUGE. Corbin made the plays to win and North didn't. It is really that simple.

They won't be in a district with Belfry, that would be a 4 hour or more trip one way. They will go to their old district with Garrard Co., Wayne Co., etc. with Somerset probably having to drop to 2A. Corbin has 224 freshman this year, so no way they stay in 2A.

He was intentionally kicked after the play was over while he was on the ground. He jumped up to go after the culprit, but a couple of teammates stopped him.

 

The second turnover was huge, biggest play of the game imo, if NL scores that possession, it's a different game. I will give the Corbin coaches some props though, they made some adjustments and play calls that helped to loosen up North's defense. North is on the right track though, I wouldn't worry about trying to convince some that the NL staff condones dirty play as you guys know them a lot better than any of us do.

Take a look at this picture and then tell me who this penalty should have been called on. Oh wait, there was no penalty called. I guess corbin players are allowed to hold and go in from the back. I'm not saying that there weren't some north penalties that were overlooked but for the corbin fans to say that it was all north, look at this picture and think again. There were uncalled penalties on both sides. This was a hard fought battle for both teams. Kids on both sides lost their tempers. It was the refs job to call the game and they failed miserably. Corbin has always been a good team, but to say they never play dirty is a bit of an understatement. Yes, in all probability Corbin would have come away the win anyway, but if a couple of things were called correctly(like the downed knee), it could have change Norths momentum and the score could have been closer. In saying that, I wish both teams the best of luck for the rest of the season.
