What were you doing on the sidelines of North Laurel in all 3 games? I mean to hear the coaches tell the players good job for dirty hits, I'm sure their coaching staff just loves to have 15 yard penalities, as a matter of fact I bet they set aside 30 minutes of practice a day to teach cheap shots. What a joke, Nl played better than you expected and hit the Corbin boys right in the mouth from the get go and it left a bad taste, the hit on Watkins was definatley before the whistle, recongition or not he was on the field trying to make a tackle and got hit. If you want to play that game then it is a shame that all night #12 had to get hit late out of bounds because of the recongition he has had, Corbin just trying to knock him out of the game I guess...:rolleyes:Get a clue:puke:

 

I kwow several players on the NL team that is what i heard from them also.I would think they would know more than you think you know.

Corbin has a great team this year. I fully expect to see them in the state championship game. And here's hoping they win it.

One thing that is obvious before the ball is ever snapped is that they are physically far ahead of their opponents. Coach Jewell is to be commended for having a tremendous strength program. North's players should notice that and understand the importance of the weight room in January through July.

Also, Corbin is a "known" program throughout the state. They are highly respected and whoever plays them gets a little (if not a lot) extra juiced for the game. One of the prices of having a great program is that every single game you have a bullseye on you. Teams will play you harder because beating Corbin is a bigger win than most. North wanted that signature win last night and played the first half to get it. However, Corbin showed why they are state championship caliber - they responded, handled it, and took control of the game. Corbin was simply the better team.

North is a greatly improved team. Coach Larkey and staff have taught this team to have a winning attitude but the fourth game in this new regime is not far enough in to beat Corbin. Again, the Hounds are just too good. North's players will learn from this game if they will be mature about it and take notice of how Corbin responded to "heightened emotions" with harder more determined play AS A TEAM rather than going the individual route and trying to get an individual payback on the next play. THe perfect example is the hit on Watkins. It may have put him on the sidelines for three plays but it also sealed the game. From that point on Corbin, AS A TEAM, controlled the game. That's the difference between an established winning team (Corbin) and one that is learning to win (North).

When North plays as a team, like the first half, they're pretty good. When they play as individuals, like the second half, they can look pretty bad. It's all part of the learning process. This game will make North better if they realize that about themselves and apply it the remainder of the season.

We did have one personal foul called on us. It was a late hit out of bounds. From where I sat it didn't appear to be a cheap shot....it was on the far side line.

I have to admit, I'm a little shocked at the negative comments about NL and its fans. I expected comments on how physical NL was, and good luck the rest of the season. All the negative comments really shocked me. The game must have appeared different from the other side of the field.

I think that North Laurel has improved fundamentally, the blocking and tackling were sound for the most part and they came out well prepared. I'm not sure what the remainder of the schedule looks like, I know they play a very good Whitley team and also Letcher Central, but I think they will be in the hunt for a playoff berth at the least. As far as the other stuff mentioned on here, as I said before i only saw one kid on either team that I thought played dirty. It was not something that you might catch just by watching the action around the ball, it was away from the ball and was always on Corbin's side of the field. I hope it shows up in the film so that the coaches can see it and eliminate it from happening again. Good luck the remainder of the season as I always pull for the North side of Laurel Co.

You are 100% correct. Amazing how many folks are coming to watch NL play now than the past several years now that they are winning (just not tonight).

 

I agree 110% on Manns. He has nice hands and is a load to bring down. As a blocking TE, he can seal his side extremely well. He has really worked hard and put on some muscle. I would LOVE to have seen him play all thru HS and not just the last 2 seasons. Watkins is flat out tough.

 

I had several people ask me to find pics or video to see if Mitchell's knee was down on the controversial play. Not that it really matters now, but his knee was absolutely down and that was another blown call, not even close. Much like the 15 yard against Corbin that should have been offsetting dead ball fouls. The refs didn't decide the outcome of the game and I don't want to give that impression, but they did let the emotions go unchecked far too often.

 

Corbin is going to make another solid postseason run this year. So many weapons. North will be back in the playoffs and could possibly win a playoff game for the first time in school history. Both coaching staffs do a great job, Corbin's staff has just been doing it a whole lot longer.

 

BTW, Dave and Dave do a tremendous job in calling the game pretty much down the line. I love to listen to them. How long have they been doing Redhound sports now?

There a big difference in physical play and cheap shots.You must had a blind fold on your eyes on the other side of the field.Congats to Coach Jewell for keeping his players under control can't say that for Larkey and his bunch....They need to learn how to coach to win not hurt players liked they were trying to do.If you couldn't see that then you are blind.Now we have beaten the Jags in style lets get ready for South Friday. I heard it on the radio and they were saying Roman was falling down once when he handed it off. NL was saying he was down. Dave and Dave said where he was falling backwards, his knee may have not touched but they couldn't tell.

And I can assure you that NL coaches are not congratulating players for costing their team 15 yards or for a late hit no more than the Corbin coaches would do that.

Dave and Dave were right, he was falling backwards. I think he must have tripped over one of his lineman's feet. His knee was clearly down when he handed the ball off. I actually have a friend who has pulled some still shots from video which clearly show that his knee was down before he handed the ball off. Instead of a loss, it turned into a nice gain for the Hounds. I have to give Roman a great deal of credit for still making the handoff and showing very nice body control. But his knee was down. I will try to get those still shots and post them.
