I was able to get a little feed off the radio and heard Dave and Dave speaking about how things were getting chippy. Maybe they were making it sound like it was going both ways so they wouldn't come off as blaming the North kids but I'm sure it was going both ways. Kids will be kids and football is a physical game full of emotion.

 

I'll admit that North has a hot head or two from what I recall but I've seen many players from our team scuffle a little bit in games. We just need to remember that these are kids on here. That doesn't condone any actions by either team but we as adults, shouldn't call out the kids even if it was or wasn't obvious. I can without a doubt say, it's no reflection of the North Laurel coaching staff. Any problem that is seen fit to be dealt with, will be dealt with after they watch film. I am confident in that. I respect your opinion, but if you were not at the game it would be hard for you to make an honest judgment in the matter. I hope there are kids on here and I hope they read these posts and I hope they will realize that football is not to be played dirty, that proves nothing, anyone can take a cheap shot or take their cleats and stomp on another player. I saw the NL coach remove a player for a few plays but that was it. If he lets it go on I don't care who he is he has no class and needs to grow up.

It sounds like Corbin is beginning to get their mojo. I'm glad to hear that Fritts is beginning to play like himslf again. He is very talented and will make Corbin very hard to stop.

We did have one personal foul called on us. It was a late hit out of bounds. From where I sat it didn't appear to be a cheap shot....it was on the far side line.

He tried to pull up and could not stop, but it looked like he tried to hold the NL player up after running into him out of bounds. I had no problem with that flag, but why was the NL player not flagged when he shoved/hit the Corbin player right in front of the officials after the Corbin player walked away.

What respect I had for NL I lost tonight, they are one dirty team and that goes back to coaching. Cheap shots, trying to hurt players has no place in the "GAME" of football. The refs let it get out of hand, but if I were coaching a few of those players would be on the bench. And putting your starters back in against our freshmen, what a joke. North is not on the same level as Corbin football and it showed big time tonight. This is what I feel like doing after observing some of the behavior from NL tonight-:puke:

 

I agree the refs let it get out of hand. However, you didn't mention the cheap shots were from both sides. The late hit on Wardrup was really bad, but I guess that doesn't count? Wardrup's retailiation was bad. And while it should have been off setting penalties, they only penalized Corbin. Bad call, but the ref never threw the flag until after Wardup retaliated with the shove. There were late hits and piling on from both teams. But I guess only the negative actions of some NL players made you puke and you just turned a blind eye to those from the other side? Are you saying that Jewell coaches Corbin players to hit someone well out of bounds? Of course he doesn't, .. and it would be wrong to assume that. Same goes for North. We can agree on this, ... the refs just did a bad job tonight.

 

But to the actual game, .... the first quarter NL was able to move the ball on Corbin and the Hounds could not move it on North. Turnovers KILLED NL. The first fumble was caused by a very nice play from the Hounds and Manns recovered. Corbin lost yardage on that drive. NL did themselves in and Corbin did what a good team does, make big plays when they needed to and finish strong.

 

Bottom line, Corbin is a better team than North. But North showed me that they could move the ball on the Hounds, and early on, that they could stop Corbin. But they just shot themselves in the foot too many times and Corbin did not. I thought once Corbin went up 21-0, the game was over. North lost their steam and Corbin put the game on ice.

 

As far as the final TD, Wagers is not a starting RB and he scored the TD and 2 pt conversion.

 

I have worked with kids from BOTH schools in the past and present in helping them get their information to collegiate coaches and have an immense amount of respect for BOTH schools and coaches. I hated that the refs let it get this way, but to only blame the North kids and staff is not fair and looking at it through red colored glasses.

 

I really like what I saw from Watkins. NL stopped him early, even throwing him for some losses. But he did what the great players do, ... keep plugging then BAM, he makes big play after big play. As good as he was last year, ... he is even better this season. Big, strong, fast, will run over you or around you. I also really liked Michael Taylor. He battled for that bad snap fumble that really would have given NL more momentum and that was a HUGE play. Also on the fake punt, he made a great decision and finished it with a solid 'lower your head and deliver the blow to the tackler' play. Very nice. I thought Fritz looked like he is getting back to himself. Manns is becoming a BEAST and his blocking has improved greatly. Roman is developing into a very good QB. Corbin is even better than what I thought they were. They did start slow, but part of that was that NL played well early. This is a very dangerous Corbin team with a vast array of weapons that will be hard to handle once the postseason rolls around.

It was absolutely a late hit out of bounds, right in front of me. The ref did not throw the flag until the NL player retaliated and then only penalized Corbin. It should have been dead ball personal fouls on both teams and offsetting. Another instance where this crew was bad. They let a lot of the late hits and a few instances of piling on go unpenalized and unwarned. Had they gotten control early, I think that it wouldn't have been quite as testy. NL had a few 15 yarders and to be honest, I believe they deserved them. But this crew did a bad job. I am just glad that noone was hurt and it didn't get any worse. I saw several players for both teams separating players from each other to keep it from getting worse.

Goes both ways, and I was there. There were late hits from kids on both teams. Even Corbin's Dave and Dave (who are just excellent) recognized that emotions were flaring both ways.

 

You saw the NL coach remove a player for a few plays? I saw that as well. What else did you want him to do during a game? Have him run laps around the tracks? Run the stairs? He did what a coach should do with a player whose emotions need to be cooled down, ... pull them and let them cool down.

I thought that North should have stuck with the 3 yards and a cloud of dust strategy. They kept the ball the entire 1st qtr except for three offensive plays by Corbin. The extra curricular stuff really hurt North because it lit a fire under the Hounds and they played with a lot more emotion after the late shot on Watkins. I'm not saying the NL team played dirty, but watch the replay(usually after the whistle, one on a NL kickoff return was real bad)and focus on one certain # and you will see some things that should not have happened.

 

North Laurel has a pretty good team and this game should have been closer than the final score IMO.

North is always physical and their fans are some of the most antimated in the area. South may be in trouble this week. Fritts had some nice runs and seems to be gaining each week. Manns can be a weapon if he is used in the passing game. I though Matt Taylor was the best player on the field tonight. He made game changing plays. Foley is another weapon for the Hounds. He got zero carries tonight but teams should not forget about him. If Mitchell Fredrick could get a look at WR, I think he could be a playmaker as well. I feel he brings some things to the table that others can not. Overall a good win over a North team that was motivated and headhunting tonight.

 

South is going to have a very hard time with Corbin. So many weapons. Who do you focus on? Watkins? Fritts? Taylor? And Mitchell is becoming quite a good QB. Corbin is very solid, ... even better than I already thought they were, and I picked them to win this game. I just thought it would be close.

I'm not saying Corbin didn't deserve the late hit penalty, it was a late hit OOB. It just didn't appear to be intentional....maybe it was. Nothing from Corbin was near what a couple of NL players did several times....well after plays were over and officials were concentrating on other things.

 

Things did get a little testy, I am amazed there was not a fight on the field....

I agree that some of the North players let their emotions get the better of them and it cost them. There were several late hits on both sides, and this crew simply ignored them until the incident on the sideline which should have been offsetting and not just against Corbin. The hit was late and out of bounds and the North player retaliated. Both should have drawn flags. The refs also missed several holding calls on both teams.

 

North does have a pretty good team, but Corbin is better and showed it tonight. I actually thought when they spread Corbin out and let Fugate run more, then had some really nice big plays. The pounding it up the middle for both teams made it about the fastest 1st quarter I have ever seen in HS. The game started at 730pm (maybe a few minutes late) and 20 minutes later, the quarter was over.
