I'm not saying Corbin didn't deserve the late hit penalty, it was a late hit OOB. It just didn't appear to be intentional....maybe it was. Nothing from Corbin was near what a couple of NL players did several times....well after plays were over and officials were concentrating on other things.

 

Things did get a little testy, I am amazed there was not a fight on the field....

 

I was amazed as well. But it wasn't the officials who kept there from being a fight. I saw some coaches from both sides talk to kids and pull them aside as well as several players from both teams separate skirmishes before they really blew up. But there were some late hits and piling on that these officials didn't call. I don't buy that they were focusing on other things. Several of them happened right at the pile, and they acted like they didn't see it right in front of them.

Excellent posts MT, anyone who is solely blaming NL is wearing red glasses, another number from Corbin I could see all night taunting the NL sidelines, but I won't mention numbers as others have. It amazes that it was alright and the Corbin kid was trying to stop from hitting late, but when NL does it, it is blatant. You could tell from the game tonight NL hit Corbin hard and emotions were running high, Watckins never was really a factor tonight like he was against Danville, refs were no where to be seen tonight.

I agree that some of the North players let their emotions get the better of them and it cost them. There were several late hits on both sides, and this crew simply ignored them until the incident on the sideline which should have been offsetting and not just against Corbin. The hit was late and out of bounds and the North player retaliated. Both should have drawn flags. The refs also missed several holding calls on both teams.

 

North does have a pretty good team, but Corbin is better and showed it tonight. I actually thought when they spread Corbin out and let Fugate run more, then had some really nice big plays. The pounding it up the middle for both teams made it about the fastest 1st quarter I have ever seen in HS. The game started at 730pm (maybe a few minutes late) and 20 minutes later, the quarter w

as over.

 

Fugate made some nice runs.......that hurt Corbin last week as well.

 

I thought North Laurel kind of lost focus,and maybe confidence after Corbin got their 3rd TD. If they could have scored when they were driving before Waldrup's fumble, this game may have been in doubt into the 4th qtr.

Watckins never was really a factor tonight like he was against Danville, refs were no where to be seen tonight.

 

 

 

 

That is what is great about this Corbin team...Watkins doesn't HAVE to be a factor for us to win.

 

However, Caleb should be given more credit, he had another very solid outing tonight.

You are 100% correct. Amazing how many folks are coming to watch NL play now than the past several years now that they are winning (just not tonight).

 

I agree 110% on Manns. He has nice hands and is a load to bring down. As a blocking TE, he can seal his side extremely well. He has really worked hard and put on some muscle. I would LOVE to have seen him play all thru HS and not just the last 2 seasons. Watkins is flat out tough.

Much like the 15 yard against Corbin that should have been offsetting dead ball fouls. The refs didn't decide the outcome of the game and I don't want to give that impression, but they did let the emotions go unchecked far too often.

 

Corbin is going to make another solid postseason run this year. So many weapons. North will be back in the playoffs and could possibly win a playoff game for the first time in school history. Both coaching staffs do a great job, Corbin's staff has just been doing it a whole lot longer.

 

BTW, Dave and Dave do a tremendous job in calling the game pretty much down the line. I love to listen to them. How long have they been doing Redhound sports now?

Exactly what I saw also, very obvious that led to a huge play on a 9 minute 3r quarter drive. That didn't lose the game for North but like another poster said on here, the score wasn't really indicative of how the game went. I know NL had 3 drives that went into double digits and lots of yardage, turnovers and Corbin's experience won over. People need to remember that these NL seniors have just won 5 games in high school, they are making great strides. And just to set the record straight NL's varsity didn't score on Corbins JV/9th grade. It was also NL's JV expect the QB and 1 WR. Corbin didn't substitute until 3:30 left anyway in the game. Neither team should hang their heads, pretty good game overall.

I thought that North should have stuck with the 3 yards and a cloud of dust strategy. They kept the ball the entire 1st qtr except for three offensive plays by Corbin. The extra curricular stuff really hurt North because it lit a fire under the Hounds and they played with a lot more emotion after the late shot on Watkins. I'm not saying the NL team played dirty, but watch the replay(usually after the whistle, one on a NL kickoff return was real bad)and focus on one certain # and you will see some things that should not have happened.

That was a late hit, the play was over, whistle blown, and they were not anywhere around the play. Anyone can take cheap shots, that doesn't take any athleticism or skill. What is troubling is when a kid gets a little recognition and kids get jealous and they set out to hurt or gun for them by taking cheap shots. It reminds me of someone who punches someone with a "sucker punch", I for one do not like to see anyone get "sucker punched." If your players don't know its wrong to chop block then something is wrong. If our players take cheap shots and play dirty they should be put on the sideline and stay there. All kids should know the rules, and its for certain that the refs should know them. I wonder how many kids know its illegal in high school football to horse collar tackle? Why did they decide to make that a penalty? Because of the risk of injury. How many know what a chop block is? Why is that a penalty? Because you can cause serious injuries. We had a kid get his leg snapped on a chop block on a "kickoff" last year. What was the intentions of the kid who made the block? I don't know, but that is bad. He may not even know its wrong to block below the waist on a kickoff, but I doubt it.

 

I guess I have red glasses on, but I didn't see our players playing dirty. It was bad enough that our coach had a talk with the refs numerous times, but to no avail. The refs seemed to want a check and exit. They need to find something else to do with their extra time and another way to earn some extra money.

Corbin play a very solid game running, thowing, defense it was all solid. The O-line and D-line looked really good again tonight. Very pround of the HOUNDS keep it going down the road to SL next Friday.

I want to make a few comments and I'm finished. I'm glad to see the NL program doing better this year and their fan support. They do have some nice players. I would say to both teams, fans, and coaches, may all of us be glad that we can enjoy high school football and let us all work on our sportsmanship.:walk:

Even though the score was lopsided, I feel both teams got a lot out of the game and made each other better, it looked like a hard fought game regardless. Good Luck the rest of the season!:thumb:
