QUESTION FOR HIGHLANDS FANS WHO ARE PREDICTING A BLOWOUT:

 

I don't understand this. It seems that some have been predicting big Highlands blowouts for four straight weeks, and I think it's fair to say that the outcomes of the first three games have not been as lopsided as many expected. If Highlands didnt blow out 1A Beechwood, why would they blow out an Ohio Division I (large school) 1-1 Withrow team that has some athletically talented players on the squad (and the game is at Withrow, no less)????

Withrow lost by 60 last week to a speed team...

Having watched the tape, Highlands better not overlook Withrow. They have some fast and dangerous players that will hurt you if they get the ball in the open (which is Doc Gamble's offensive style). Winton Woods beat them like a drum on the score board, but the score board didn't give a good indication of the quality of some of Withrow's players. Winton Woods is a very, very good D 2 Ohio team by the way. Withrow made a bunch of silly mistakes and had something like 7 turnovers. If they play like that, then yes we will beat them like Winton Woods did. But if they cut down there turnovers and stupid mistakes (like Beechwood did against us) then it won't be a blow out. Withrow will be a very good test for our young defensive secondary. They threw the ball something like 75% of the time and used a "bunch" (pardon the pun) of receiver sets. Offensively we should be okay, but defensively, Withrow presents a lot of challenges for us.

 

I agree... I have also seen Withrow play our JV last year and the various 7 on 7's the last several years. Our defense will not be over looking this challenge as many have played in the aforementioned games and they know what they are up against. Should be a very interesting match-up!

I'm not sure it's HHS fans predicting the blowouts. It could be non-fans predicting the blowouts knowing full well at times the players get on here and read the posts. Hopefully the majority of the players stay focused and take it one game at a time. I've seen the tape and Withrow does have play makers like you've mentioned.

I agree. In order to create the environment for a lopsided win, your defense must get the ball back (punt, turnover, etc.) without allowing long drives. The 1st 3 games this has not happened AND HHS has faced good running attacks. Given the clock stoppages in HS football, that combination greatly shortens the game and the # of possessions making a lopsided score impossible. Heck, Ryle took much of the 1st Qtr. clock on their opening drive that ended in a TD. Take the Beechwood game, for example. HHS scored a TD on every offensive possession except 1 INT and a fumbled kick return to start the 2nd Half. Sounds like a blowout, right? Nope. Beechwood moved the ball on the ground in each of their possessions and scored on some. Clock got chewed up and # of possessions limited.

 

With respect to Withrow, LN suggests they may throw the ball much more than HHS has seen to date. If there are some incompletions, sacks or INTs, HHS will have more possessions and the opportunity to create a lopsided score early. This has the momentum of making the opposition play catchup and create even more scoring opportunities. If, however, they are precise in their passing game and move the chains against the HHS D, look for a similar script as the 1st 3 games.

Sounds like Winton Woods would be a great opponent for Highlands. I'm not expecting much out of Withrow, nor am I expecting a blow-out, unless 35 - 6 is a blow-out.

Winton Woods is very good. They had Moeller beat and let them come back and win..

Could someone give me directions to the field? I know the school is in Hyde Park and was just wondering what the easiest way was to get there considering Friday traffic in Cincinnati.

 

As for the game, I look for Highlands to win this game by 2 or 3 touchdowns. It was very obvious last week that the Birds were working on the passing game as Collinsworth only had 8 or so carries. Think that Dale is looking for balance in the attack, especially as the season progresses. The defense has some inexperienced players that should get better as the season progresses. When you play the style of defense that the Birds play, you are especially susceptible to good run teams as well as teams that want to throw medium range passes. I would like to see them play some snaps where rather than guessing gaps they just played a basic defense and made some stops.

Does anyone know if this game will be broadcast live over the internet?
