September 5, 200917 yr Apolegetics in a Pluralistic Age - Kenneth Boa The Universe Next Door - Sire As well as my favorite of the three.. Expository Sermons from Galations - W.A. Criswell The first two aforementioned are for class, and are really starting to take their toll :ohbrother:
September 5, 200917 yr How is it? I've always been a little hesitant to read it...but also kind of wanted to. It's written in an episodic style that infuriates me. I think there's a good way to write books that track an entire season (see: Fab Five by Mitch Albom) but there's also a bad way. The narrative is really broken up into these little vignettes, but that's just a thing that drives me crazy. I am really enjoying the content itself. Stories about Jim Leyland and Bobby Bonilla are always great. That was just such a crazy season in South Florida that you almost can't help but be drawn in once you get a little ways into the book.

September 5, 200917 yr Author An interesting book, though it's been a while since I read it. Just finished "Breaking Dawn" - just for fun. Which one?
September 6, 200917 yr Is he down on the Marlins...or just an outsiders look from the inside? As a member of the press, he has a sort of love-hate relationship with guys like Bobby Bonilla and Gary Sheffield, who've always had a sort of love-hate relationship with the media. I don't think he's down on the Marlins, necessarily, but certainly has things to say on the way the organization was run.
September 6, 200917 yr The War That Made America by Fred Anderson Just a short little summary of the French & Indian War. It's not an in-depth study by any means, but really quite interesting.
September 9, 200917 yr Just bought "The Seven Storey Mountain" by Thomas Merton. Can't wait to get into it. Didn't even know about Merton until seeing a KET documentary about him a couple weeks ago. He was a great writer and a unique personality, who spent much of his life as a monk, right here in Kentucky.
September 9, 200917 yr For me it's some book of ghost stories in Ky's Bluegrass region. Just bought "The Seven Storey Mountain" by Thomas Merton. Can't wait to get into it. Didn't even know about Merton until seeing a KET documentary about him a couple weeks ago. He was a great writer and a unique personality, who spent much of his life as a monk, right here in Kentucky. He lived here in Nelson Co. for the last half of his life (27 yrs). There's a place here in town that specializes in materials relating to Merton that I need to check out. They make some fantastic bourbon fudge out at the Abbey, as well as many other delicacies.

September 9, 200917 yr It's good stuff too. I've been telling you that the key to bourbon fudge-making is faith. Seriously though, I'm going to do a silent retreat at Gethsamane Jan. 30-Feb.1 (schedule permitting) and I can't wait.
