February 23, 201016 yr Has anyone read the Glass Castle? WONDERFUL read! Great, sad story, but made even better considering it's true! Jeannette Walls new book is just as good! Highly recommend. Met the author this past fall in Cincinnati. She was doing a book signing and gave a talk at the Convention Center. It was really worth the trip. While I didn't consider myself a 'book nerd', I guess I am, and I'm now pretty proud of it! I'd like to second Beechnut's response. It's an extremely compelling and astonishing memoir. I didn't plan on reading it so quickly but it only took a day as I couldn't put it down.
February 23, 201016 yr Started 1984, my next book will Catch-22. Today, I'm reading George Orwell's essay about Charles Dickens. It's going on a bit long.

And....how was it? It took me about 3 days. It's about 1100 pages too. I thought was great! Not the same great as Pillars, but I think that's because I knew what to expect. The level of detail didn't surprise me as much.

I have a terrible habit of reading far, far into the night. I absolutely lose myself in books. So, don't give me kudos. :lol: I often pay for it the next day. :lol:

Reading quickly (and understanding what I read to a certain degree) got me out of two semesters of English Composition at Morehead. One semester of creative writing instead.

February 24, 201016 yr Reading quickly (and understanding what I read to a certain degree) got me out of two semesters of English Composition at Morehead. One semester of creative writing instead. I consider myself a quick reader, and comprehend what I've plowed thru. I suppose I just don't have a large block of time to devote each day. My personal goal is to read AT LEAST 50 pages a day. (of anything) I did take a speed-reading course in high school. I do a 'modified' version of it, since I really love books and try to read every word.
