Let me understand, others on this site can give you plenty of stats, sing praise and give details. Let's have some thick skin, I don't think I need to classify this as all running backs need to learn to catch the ball and block for Bardo's backside. I work with boys in the 5/6 grade they learn from their mistakes. I guess I could add that Fennell had trouble holding on the ball especially receiving kicks but he still had good returns. I am not sure that would have been the case with good kick return coverage (happy).

 

I've already stated in a previous thread the boy in question is lightning fast and could be a stud but needs to work on other areas of his game. Week #2 has carried over to week #3. I am sure Dale is working with him. A lot is expected on the line to block and take care of the skilled players, it is very hard if a skilled player is one dimensional on this squad. I have pointed out flaws on the defense as have others involving outside LB (both sides) to many folks to name. We need to give Roller help (which he is a stud just is fun to watch especially for my young guys to see why we work on form tackling and driving (clinic on doing it right). After that one hit I was dizzy in the stands:D A couple players on the defense have begun to step up, but the defense is light years away IMO and the play has been average and it will cost them. They are very talented on the offensive side of the ball, but they need to be on the field. Yes I agree with a previous post they will be fine in NKY and Dixie as well. It will be along day when Cincy St X comes to this side of the river. It is personal, I just get sick of the GCL blow boys telling us that Highlands is good but would be an average team in their conference. Unless this team gets going mark my words I will hear it again. Offense is starting to hit their stride, but WOW who is being held accountable on the defense? LN and some of the film folks i would be interested in knowing your thoughts.

I am glad to see that Highlands was able to work on the passing game some. It seems that the offense is clicking... I do think the defense needs some work. Next week's game at Cincinnati Withrow should be interesting. Withrow won their first game but got destroyed by Winton Woods last night.

Highlands whipped them pretty well, 62-7 I think was the final. Actually, it started to look like it might turn into a ball game just before the half. Highlands was winning 21-7 and Beechwood was driving for a score to get within a TD. About :40 seconds to go and Highlands intercepted a pass at the 2 yard line. Next play, 98 yard TD pass by Highlands. That was the ball game. It went from possibly 21-14 at half to 28-7 and Beechwood was never in it after that. Too many bodies for Beechwood to hang in there. The size difference in the lines was wide (no pun intended). I doubt Beechwood will ever be able to beat Highlands in a JV game. The depth of talent in a talented 70 man roster just is never going to allow a 1A school like Beechwood compete. Beechwood's best sophomores are needed on the varsity and Highlands sophomores are getting groomed for their senior year. But I still like seeing BW play Highlands because it shows you how much better you need to get, even though you won back to back state championships. The game is going to look very slow and easier to the BW players the rest of the season after watching the Bluebirds fly around the field.

Congrats on the win. Tigers showed a lot of moxy tonight. Birds defense needs to get its act together in a hurry. Too many missed tackles and holes that you could drive a truck through.

 

The D was far from good and it seems like everybody knows what the weaknesses are. As for the offense,too many turnovers. All it's going to take is a turnover or two against somebody like St. X,and you can turn out the lights the party is over.The fat lady will be singing loudly. Special teams also needs to get their act together.How is everybody returning kickoffs right up the middle for big yardage against the birds?? Don't get me wrong,there was some great plays on both sides of the ball for the birds,extremely hard hits by the middle Lb (roller),some great catches by Buten and great runs by A.C. The birds need to keep working hard,and maybe we can surprize the team from Ohio when they come to Ft.Thomas. Go birds ,one game at a time. :thumb:

If the Birds don't play better defense every game is going to be a tough game..I think Weiney will right the ship though. I also believe they need to move Roller to the outside so he can play in space.:ylsuper:

Having seen both Highlands and Boone, Highlands has nothing to worry about in that one...unless by good game you mean a 4 TD spread.

Question for the Bluebird fans, why do you think they had Roller on the field basically the entire game on defense against BW? Towards the end of the game, he was the only starter still playing defense but they left him out there any way.

I thought the 1s scored a TD on every possession except for the 1 INT by Bardo with the 2 personal foul penalties? I definitely don't recall any punts and can't remember any fumbles recovered by BW.

 

Problem was on the Defensive side of the ball which limited the offensive possessions b/c BW ate so much clock (much like Ryle did in its 1st drive last week). It really shortens the game against a running team.

Along with the interception,there was a fumble on one of the kickoff returns by HHS. I believe two turnovers is two too many.(JMO)
