On a side note, I will say that BW fans were very knowledgable and also very nice folks. The only grief we got was the face mask subsequent personal foul. No doubt about the face mask, those of you closer to the action was their whistle? From my end it looked like the boyl continued to run and a Highlands player tried to make a tackle. Again I was not close to the action.

 

Yes, the play was blown dead. The BW player was either pumped by the interception or ticked at the face mask and was up bouncing around and a Highlands player delivered a blow to the BW player's head ... who was without his helmet due to the face mask. It wasn't a vicious blow by the Highlands player but he is lucky he wasn't ejected. Any time you deliver a blow to the head like that it becomes a judgement call by the official.

 

As for the Birds, if they play the way they did tonight, they may lose some games this year. In fact, the Dixie game has me quite concerned right now. Imo, some big improvements are needed for this team to go all the way.

 

You worry for no reason. Dixie will not stop HHS' offense.

I'll take a 28 point win with an offense working on new things and a defense with a few banged up players anyday.

Wow! Was it me or was there an absolute crazy amount of injuries tonight? I have never seen so many in one game. Why is that? Conditioning, getting hit too hard, or just bad luck? I did see some big hits tonight but c'mon.

 

As far as the game goes, Will was throwing very good tonight. Collinsworth had his usual nasty runs. Buten steps up big, but really, looks like the norm for him. He is good.

 

On defense, some of these younger kids are starting to step up. Bruns and Abner had some really nice plays. Cam Dierig seems to be everywhere. Only real downfall I see is where is the help for Roller. With him playing inside, it's tougher to shoot the holes. He has guys all over him. Our outside guys need to step up and make some plays. Roller did have some serious hits though. WOW!

 

Nice to see Jake true and Josh Quillen get some very productive reps.

 

Beechwood had their usual speedsters. Their QB scrambles like no other. Running backs were very quick. I just hated to see so many kids get hurt. They are not very deep to begin with. God speed to those who did.

 

On a last note, to the person/s who sat next to me that can't keep comments to themselves about their teams own players especially with the kids parents in front of you, please shut the heck up. They are just kids and from the looks of it, you never put pads on before. Not that that makes any difference. Fellow BGP'ers on top of it so I know they will read this. I would have left too! It shouldn't have even been a penalty IMO let alone talk about ejecting him. Now the guy ripping his helmet off is a different story, if you want to argue that.

Sounds like a judgement on your part. Was standing right there and the Beechwood player was clearly trying to advance the ball. If there is fault, the refs should have step in and stopped the play. And I don't mean by blowing a whistle which they were slow doing that on that play. They should protect that kid without a helmet and stepped in and stopped the play. No way should he have been ejected let alone a penalty.

Highland's offense is unstoppable. Speed on top of speed on top of speed. And I am not including the speed of Bardo because he really didn't run the ball tonight. Beechwood has good speed in the defensive backfield and the Highlands receivers were running right on by them. Bardo just lofted the ball up and said go get it and they did. Collinsworth is the real deal. The 71 yard TD run...just about any other back is tackled for a loss. He juked his way around 4 or 5 BW players who thought they had him cornered on the sideline and then he turns on the jets - bye bye. Great moves and great speed.

 

Defensively, Highlands needs some work. And I think Dale realizes it. The score is 41-17 late in the 4th Q and Mueller still had Roller on the field at middle linebacker. I will be interested in seeing how many yards BW racked up tonight. Still, BW had to earn every yard they got so I think Highlands will get the defense up to their standard soon.

 

On the Beechwood side, look out 1A - the Tigers are still a force. Don't look at this score. Get the tape and you will see what I am talking about. Beechwood looked like a completely different team tonight. Still a lot of work to do on defense, especially stopping the run. Too many big holes for the Highlands backs and still not containing the end. But a much, much better looking team on the Beechwood side tonight. Cameron Vocke gave a preview of things to come in the second half as he "Collinsworthed" the Highlands D. You hate to say you are pleased with a 48-20 loss, but I think most Beechwood fans are just that. I was hopinmg for a 3 TD loss and take away the last TD by the second teamers from Highlands with :20 seconds to go and it was that hoped for 3 TD margin. Now Beechwood needs to hope they can get healthy for Holy Cross as a half dozen Tigers went down tonight.

It looked to me like a forearm type blow to the chin. Like I said, it wasn't vicious - kind of like a "get out of my face" push away. Please do not try to act like it was a continuation of the play. If it was, why were the other Highlands guys there not trying to make a tackle. Not that big of a deal guys. It is a contact sport.
