I've seen Ryle, Dixie, Highlands, Simon Kenton, and NewCath this year. Highlands is #1 out of that group, obvioulsy. Ryle is #2, easily. Dixie is #3 and SK is #4. I am aware that SK was w/out Simpson, however, Dixie's defense tackled much better than SK's. That is the major difference b/n the two teams, Dixie has a better overall D.

 

You felt that Dixie tackled that much better against NCC than SK did? BTW Beechwood looked lost Saturday.

Don't get me wrong, I think Ryle's got a good team. But until they face one of the other teams, we don't really know if they're # 2.

Not at all. Your opinion is as correct as anyone else's at this point. Just didn't think Ryle should be penalized too much given they played a pretty darn good opponent.

Yes. NewCath moved the ball well against SK until they ran out of gas in the 4th quarter. They didn't get much of anything after the first drive at Dixie.

So now that the season's underway and teams are playing their starters and not evaluating talents, we should still take in to account scrimmages?

My recollection is one of those teams was quite concerned about the final score of one of those 'scrimmages,' or at least that's what I heard.

The Enquirer Northern Kentucky poll came out yesterday and had Simon Kenton taking 1 first place vote away from Highlands. I'll bet most of you are flipping out of your computer chairs on that one!

You want logical basis, ok. I believe that Ryle's rushing attack w/Elliot and Eubanks is one of the best 1-2 combinations around, and will lead Ryle to victory over Simon Kenton. Hempel's ability to throw the ball will be more consistent than Boone's when they play each other, where I think that the rushing attacks will be a wash. I thought that Ryle was one 4th down conversion and a fumble at their 5 yard line from giving Highlands all that they wanted. Highlands is #1, but I feel like Ryle is closer to beating them than any team that I've seen this year.

"I believe" is not a logical basis. "I thought" isn't either.

 

I don't totally disagree with you or your assessment. I personally think you can make a case for one of 4 teams to be slotted at # 2.

 

I'm glad we have 3-6A teams that are close in talent. They will make each other better. Hopefully one of these years one of them will finally pry the title away from the Louisville schools.

 

And I think we'll find out if Ryle is as close as to Highlands as you seem to think they are. But to counter your 4th down conversion and fumble, Highlands had 2 dropped TD's and a dropped pass that was intercepted.

Mex, if you are going to play that game, then Highlands was a dropped pass in the end zone away from another touchdown (we got zero points out of that drive); and a slip by Bardo as he was setting up to throw a pass to a wide open Buten away from another touchdown (we got zero points out of that drive too when we missed the field goal); and a pass that went through a running back's hands on a screen that resulted in an interception deep in Ryle's territory from turning a nice margin of victory into a complete blow out. You can't really take into account miscues from one team that cost them points and ignore those of the other team.
