Cincinnati St. Xavier, OH 16 Colerain, OH 0

I figured some KY teams will have some interest in this one.

Not surprised X won, but to shut out Colerain is impressive.

Woah Nellie! You better believe there's some interest over here in KY. Maybe something more than interest!

I love it. I for one want to see St. X come to Ft. Thomas undefeated. You want to play the best year in and year out. I think either way, we are in for a great game with an atmosphere that will rival anywhere.

It will be interesting when they come to Ft. Thomas. If I remember right the last time a big Cincy power came was 97' or 98' when Moeller came and won by 1 point. Don't think it was a great Moeller team but still a nice effort by Highlands behind Lorenzen, Smith and company.

I think based on this score Highlands is going to have to force a lot of turnovers to get in the endzone.

Very impressive. Coach Specht from X is probably the best coach I have ever met and spoken to outside of Coach Mueller.

Colerain was completely shut down but in all fairness they shut down St.X for the better part of the game

Looking forward to Cardsfan's report on this game.

Very disappointed in what I saw from Colerain tonight. Uncharacteristically unprepared. Their offense was terrible at times. Calling 2 time outs during their first possession in the second half is unforgivable. Colerain just didn't look right offensively tonight.

Defensively Colerain looked good with the exception of the one long TD run. I did not see the St. X TD at the end of the game.

St. X defensively looked nothing short of awesome. The continue to be the best tackling team year in and year out. They just don't miss tackles. Highlands will not see a defense as good as this one all year.

I will add that St. X had a ton of injury's in the game. I hope they were nothing more than cramps.

Actually, it was arguably Moeller's best team in 20 years. Certainly, a great Moeller team, even by their high standards. They were preseason top 10 nationally in USA Today, and lost only twice all season. Second loss was in the state championship game to undefeated National Champion Canton McKinley.

I'm not a big fan of critiquing coaches, but I think Colerain's best days are behind them. I think they lost that much when they lost Kerry Coombs.

This isn't a doomsday prediction by any stretch of the imagination, as the Cardinals will certainly be clearly the top public school team in southwest Ohio, maybe the state, for the foreseeable future. They are drawing too much talent not to be.

But, Coombs was a very good coach, and he also had his kids believing in him about as much as I've ever seen any coach have kids buy in. I'm not seeing quite the same, shall I say, intangibles with him no longer running the program.

On the other hand, I think Specht is very possibly the best coach in Greater Cincinnati. I know St. X has a ton of built in advantages regarding talent pool, and I know he had a rough year last season. But, since he's been there he's taken the program to its highest level ever.

My two cents.

If Bolden is Colerains' coach, and i believe he is, I have heard nothing but good about him. My best friend, who is a reporter/recruiter/scout/whateversportstalentseekersare that works in NKY and Cincinnati says Bolden is one of the better ones out there and the boys on his team respond so well to him.

I had family members there tonight, and I heard Colerain just has no passing game, which allowed St. X to swarm and pretty much look like the most perfect defense to ever be witnessed. They said Colerains' defense was really good, but that St. X just looked like the more prepared and better overall team. Massa didn't look very good, in their opinions, but he didn't need to as the running game was great. Whoever #4 is for St. X is apparently an absolutely stud and possibly only a sophmore!

Tom Bolden is Colerains head coach and his brother Dan is the Athletic Director.

Colerain has never had a passing game, even under Combs. They have always ran the triple option offense. Although last night they had a deep pass right in the hands of a receiver that was dropped. If the receiver didn't score on the play, it would have been first and goal Colerain.

That Moeller team wound up being state runner-up.
