Cincinnati St. Xavier, OH 16 Colerain, OH 0

I'm not a big fan of critiquing coaches, but I think Colerain's best days are behind them. I think they lost that much when they lost Kerry Coombs.

This isn't a doomsday prediction by any stretch of the imagination, as the Cardinals will certainly be clearly the top public school team in southwest Ohio, maybe the state, for the foreseeable future. They are drawing too much talent not to be.

But, Coombs was a very good coach, and he also had his kids believing in him about as much as I've ever seen any coach have kids buy in. I'm not seeing quite the same, shall I say, intangibles with him no longer running the program.

On the other hand, I think Specht is very possibly the best coach in Greater Cincinnati. I know St. X has a ton of built in advantages regarding talent pool, and I know he had a rough year last season. But, since he's been there he's taken the program to its highest level ever.

My two cents.

St. X is the most disciplined defense you'll find. They seem to have Colerain's number defensively. They play their assignments and that's how you beat the triple option.

It will be interesting when they come to Ft. Thomas. If I remember right the last time a big Cincy power came was 97' or 98' when Moeller came and won by 1 point. Don't think it was a great Moeller team but still a nice effort by Highlands behind Lorenzen, Smith and company.

I think based on this score Highlands is going to have to force a lot of turnovers to get in the endzone.

It was Cincy Elder in 2006.Highlands lost 21-18

It was Cincy Elder in 2004.Highlands lost 25-15

Was that game played at Elder?

Game was at highlands.I put the wrong year in my original post.

Actually, it was arguably Moeller's best team in 20 years. Certainly, a great Moeller team, even by their high standards. They were preseason top 10 nationally in USA Today, and lost only twice all season. Second loss was in the state championship game to undefeated National Champion Canton McKinley.

I stand corrected.

I just woke up from my alcohol induced slumber. Needless to say, it was a rough night for CardinalsFan. I tried to drink away the images in my mind from last night but thanks to this thread, they are all coming back.

More later...I need an aspirin...or 8....
