Congrats to Highlands. Clearly the better team tonight. Ryle struggled with their speed all night. Collinsworth is fast no doubt, but it's how quickly he can cut without losing speed that makes him so impressive. Bardo scrambles very well also. Can't say I was overwhelmed with their passing game, but they really didn't need to given they ran so well.

 

I think Ryle also showed flashes of why they will be very tough this year. The opening drive was flat out impressive. Later in the game they also threw the ball well. Just didn't seem to mix it up enough at times. I still think they have a very solid defense that will fare well in NKY against everyone but Highlands. Highlands is just too fast for them right now.

Ryle has what appears to be good players that can run a solid passing scheme. However, I didn't see much creativity in the passing game. How many times can #4 hit the qb on a blitz that was obviously coming?

Ryle had their own miscues too - interceptions and a fumble inside their own five. You beat us fair and square. You were the better team without question. But please don't take this "it should have been much worse" tone. It's not only inaccurate, but comes off as rather petty.

Ryle came out firing.. and I mean firing.. Elliot was getting 6-8 yards a pop. Scored on their first drive then Dale and the staff made some serious adjustments and really contained him and the Ryle running game.

 

Ryle going for it early on 4th down and not converting the fake punt really put them in a hole. If you give Highlands an inch they will take a mile.

 

Collinsworth looked amazing, Fennel looks really good and so did the other guy.. is it Streaker? Collinsworth should have had an 80 yard TD pass but it was a lil over thrown but wide open.

 

Bardo probably really misses Collinsworth at receiver I can count two passes dropped in the endzone where he hit them in the hands. They also did not have Roller playing any TE or wide out at all. The receivers did make some catches but they gotta haul in the TD passes. Bardo was awesome running the ball and he effortlessly throws a 40 yard pass its crazy.

 

I had a few Ryle guys by me and the comment they made was "how do you play with a team of track stars for 4 quarters?

Warner was a big part of Ryle losing. Wow!!! Not very smart play calling at all....:idunno::idunno:

J.A. text messaged all the play by play to me, so that we could keep all of BGP updated on the game. He gave great descriptions of the big plays and made the game come alive in the update thread.

Nothing was being discussed or answered at that point. You opened this thread by trying to claim that the score should have been much worse were it not for some bad passes and that Highlands played their JV, which I assume was intended to imply the game was so crazily lop-sided that Highlands went ahead and emptied their bench to limit the Ryle beatdown.

 

The final score accurately reflected the game. Highlands won handily. They were and are the better team. They did not humiliate Ryle by any stretch of the imagination and if you want to claim the score should've been even more in their favor, then it's fair to point out you're wrong since Ryle also blew some opportunities.

This was not a Highlands domination and The Birds put in their JV on Ryle's last drive with 2 minutes to play after kicking the much needed insurance field goal. Not sure about a field goal with a 34-14 lead and 2 minutes to play although their kicking game needs some work if you want to be honest. Not sure about the 3 first half gambles, of which only one worked for Ryle. But, I do like Coach Warner's style - it reflects in a team that is not afraid of anybody. Sophomore Travis Elliott probably had 150-175 yards, most in the first half. A 90-yard drive to open the game. Highlands proved to be the better team, but all of this hype about the best team in Birds history. Please give me a break. Yes, the Birds will win their 181st state title this year - not a doubt in my pea brain about that. But, you can better believe they know Ryle is much improved over last year and the game was far from a blowout. Congrats to the Raiders on championship effort. Collinsworth is very enjoyable to watch. Some of Highlands players like to kick after the whistle but no calls were made on 2 occasions. Enough comments. Life goes on and Ryle will have a very good season. Birds will win state in 5A.

Ryles players were pretty impressive. Their coaching staff was a different story. The bonehead calls in the first half quite frankly put Ryle beyond the 8 ball. I enjoyed watching one of the Ryle coaches run up and down the sidelines acting as if he were competing in a national cheerleading competition. Hey coach football is a lot like a horse race. You don't see a jockey stand up on the horse and start cheering just because he's ahead at the first quarter pole. Instead he stays focused because he knows he's got a long way to go. Being aggressive is one thing, but that was simply very bad play calling in the first half.
