You can say this but ryle also shot themselves in the foot a couple times too. On my phone so not much detail right now but it wasn't just highlands domination by any means.

 

HHS just took the Raiders to school and stopped their tough run game. But Oscar is right; the Birds just are not clicking on offense as I expected so far this season--not compared to the reports on the offseason passing game, expected to send the scoreboard into overdrive. I'd take last season's offense over this one...SO FAR. I think that is due to change soon. It better, or I think ST. X will beat up on the Birds. :irked:

NKY has some of the best football teams in the state, but somehow, year after year the Birds dominate everyone.

Is it just possible Highlands doesn't want to scare away any nothern ky teams like it says in the paper. Play us we will give you a game!!! Just a question????

Birds looked good, not great. Ryle is a good team, but they have some work to do before they can compete with Highlands.

 

There were at least 2 TD passes dropped, possibly a 3rd. I would venture to say by the time these teams play again, 50 could be reality.

Just wanting to know some opinions- if Ryle would have punted away those few times would it have made any difference in the game? Probably not much, just figured Id ask.

 

Not in the final outcome, but if Ryle gets to half only down 14 - 7, it could have made for a much tighter game.

I guess its a shame they can't get any one to play them. Ryle was up for the challege and it will help them out. If you want to be the best you have to play the best.

We all have different philosophies of how to approach a game so....

 

However, I'm not a fan of what appeared to be an air of desperation by the Ryle coaching staff early in the game. 4th and 1 from their own 20 in the first qtr and they go for it. They make it. Next possession on 4th down they run a fake punt that failed. Even if the pass had been completed it was not going to be a first down.

 

It certainly came across as "we have to do this or we can't win" when they were certainly hanging in there.

 

How many short fields did HHS have tonight early in the game? You can't let the top team in the state only play on half of the field.

I was told this could have been much worse had a few Bluebird TD passes not gone awry.

 

Was also told that Highlands did put in their jv guys toward the end.

 

Ryle had their own miscues too - interceptions and a fumble inside their own five. You beat us fair and square. You were the better team without question. But please don't take this "it should have been much worse" tone. It's not only inaccurate, but comes off as rather petty.

Met "Henry" tonight at the Highlands tailgate party. How's my credibility look with my prediction? Ryle with a serious punch in the mouth with a 90 yard TD drive to open the game. First personal foul on a touch back that I've ever seen put Ryle back on their 10 yard line. Highlands took the punch and answered in Highlands style. When does the fast running backs in Ft. Thomas mold get broken? I thought the score would have been closer if Ryle had played more field position football as the average yard line to start a drive had to be their own 45. But Ryle probably knew it was their only chance to win. I was impressed with Highlands pressure on Hempel. If Ryle is #2, could be another uneventful year in Nky for Highlands. (except for the trip to Park Hills of course) :dancingpa

 

To clarify I was just walking through the tailgate party and as I was about to get beat up, Henry saved me.

Whew! Tough, tough game. I came away very impressed with Ryle. Both teams missed opportunities. In the end, the scoring margin was pretty indicative of the game. Good job Birds.
