With numbers 34 and 8 I would be too. I tell you, having that big target at tight end will polish that passing game in a hurry. That's certainly a nice option to have out there.

 

In my prediction thread I said this is like a really good rushing attack from a Boone Co. like team vs the speedsters of HHS. Hempel will continue to develop if they can polish the passing game they could easily be a top 2-3 team in NKY.

Your son is 100% accurate. Collinsworth is like the matrix in the open field. I also agree with the receivers from HHS that was the point I made earlier with the dropped balls. Remember they took probably the best receiver in the state and put him in the backfield though. Then again if your rushing for 4 TD's you wont need to pass that much. Is Roller not on offense anymore?

 

Seldom tonight, I know he was in for one play down near the goal line. I was also wondering about Cory Compton. I thought he might get the ball some this year, although it's hard to argue with the way number 44 carried the ball.

Agreed. Some of those receivers will have to step it up there is no question about it. But what a weapon Bardo is running it... he can fly if he wants too. So many weapons.

I'm not sure who in NKY, exclusive of Highlands, would be able to contain the Raiders' running game. I think for that reason, Ryle will be a very run-oriented team this season and won't throw nearly as much as last season. I very much believe Ryle wins 6A this year.

Coop, Intersting you noted the third 4th down oppotunity. I watched the game through binoculars since I stood by the restrooms, and I thought he clearly had the first down.

 

Ryle's first drive was very nice, it looked like HHS was in for a fight. Elliott ran the ball hard on that drive. The fake punt was a bad decision, I have no problem with the 4th and one attempts but you can't give HHS a 40 yard field. Also the clock management on Ryle's last first half drive wasn't very good. I knew that 1:31 was way too much to leave out there, another short field for HHS and :15 seconds later (two plays) the game was over. Nice adjustments made by HHS after Ryle's scoring drive. It was apparent to me that Eubank hits the corner quicker than Elliott and I thought he made some nice runs for the Raiders. HHS defensively is very fast, nothing new there, they really get after it and bring plenty of game tackling punishment. Offensively, nice unit, but they aren't anywhere near clicking if you ask me. I can see the promise in Bardo but he is still wet behind the ear and will only get better, still 13 possible games so the sky is the limit. I really liked the three backs for HHS, Street, Fennell and Collinsworth are a nice three headed monster. I would have liked to have seen Collinsworth more active in the passing game, the kid is lightning quick and plays as if it's a PS3 character. HHS missed a few opportunities via the pass, two no doubt TDs if they complete the pass. Overall, I think Ryle could be the #1 6A option at this point, and they still can improve a ton. They need to sure up the passing offense, too much pressure on Hempel tonight. They've got the players to have a very impressive offense, Fugate made some plays, and with Elliott, Eubank and Nichols they should be able to keep teams on their toes. They need to utilize Nichols more in the passing game, he looks like he has a nice pair of hands, run that bad boy down the seam. It will be interesting to see these two play again at the end of the season, both should be improved.

I thought Ryle caught a very bad break on the spot of the 4th down play near midfield late in the second half. One official had it spotted a full yard further than the other official, which would have given Ryle a first down. As it was, Ryle turns the ball over on downs and Highlands strikes for a second quick TD late in the quarter and builds their lead to 20-7. By no means am I claiming this could have changed the outcome of the game - Highlands wins regardless - but it would have been nice for Ryle to go into half down 14-7 or perhaps to even tie it up at 14. Just one of those things . . .

 

Why kick to AC with only a few seconds left in the half? Why not kick it out of bounds? It almost burned them.
