Sorry for my late arrival, had a long night watching some film. loooooooooong.

 

First, Congratulations to Ashland they were the better team and deserved the win without a doubt. I sum this game up in in four words, "Speed kills & missed opportunities".

 

As for the "Sandbagging" in the preseason: we Raceland fans have said until we are blue in the face, "Ashland is the best team in the area". And the Ashland faithful have repeatedly said that we were the "sandbaggers". We were even called out by some northern-Kentucky fans about it, and were questioned if we knew anything about football at all. Maybe people will now see that we knew exactly what we were talking about.

 

Ashland has one of the fastest defense I have seen in a long time, maybe ever. They are fast to the ball, and our receivers could not get any separation, except for McKee once, when the defender fell down. We would have an open receiver, and by the time the ball got there, there were three defenders there to make the play.

 

Raceland had the ball inside the 30 five times. Three times in the first half and came up empty all of them. That is a credit to the Ashland defense, but at the same time, Raceland has to put some points on the board in those situations. Ashland had 18 points on turnovers. You can not turn the ball over to a good team and expect to win.

 

With Barr back next week I think that will make a big difference this Raceland team. And I don't think we will see this much speed again, except when we play LCA. Not many other teams that do what Ashland is going to do. I predict Ashland will not lose to an area team this year.

 

Again, congratulation to Ashland, and good luck in the remainder of the season.

Positives for Ashland:

You finally won against an opponent which had outscored you for three straight seasons.

Special teams, for the second consecutive week, played a big role in the win.

Line play continued to get better. Conditioning seemed to favor the Tomcats.

Alber & company squashed all concerns of a reduced roster

Ashland actually kicked an extra point (it was a bank shot, but still counted)

Most of all - this group of Tomcats really does play as a TEAM

 

 

Positives for Raceland:

The Rams, as expected, did not quit.

This loss is not a setback. No district implications and should serve as a learning experience.

Two starters still out of the lineup…they will return.

You guys are still Raceland Rams and all that goes along with it.

 

Ashland came out early and set the tone of this game and really didn’t look back. What impresses me most about this group is the team concept. One would be challenged to label any single player as a “star”, but collectively, they all get the job done. It appeared to me that the overall strength and conditioning favored the Tomcats…this indicates a strong work ethic during the off season…dedication and commitment goes hand in hand with this too.

 

Congratulations Cats on a well deserved and long awaited win. Enjoy the weekend, and as Mr. Alber said on the post game show “We’re now going to get ready for Belfry”.

Congrads to the Tomcats and keep the heads up Rams. We have alot more football to go. My post goes out to fans and parents in the stands. This is the first time in years I have heard a group of fans or parents yelling put the JV in. Comments like these affect every player on that field. We are known for being the best fans around. We support our team in wins and losses that is the reason that other fans from other schools have such positive things to say about the Rams program. Lets all get together and make sure this does not happen again.

My math says you are correct. :lol: That was my point. To say this Ashland team is top 5 in the past twenty years is very high praise.

Is Highlands still in their class?

Congratulations to Ashland. I haven't been a part of a butt whipping like this since I was a player at Greenup (58-0 loss to Portsmouth).

 

I thought we played pretty good defense. I think we limited Ashland to around 200 yards. But we gave away 18 points with a safety, interception return inside the 10 and the blocked punt at the 12. I was very disappointed in how our offense executed. A lot of that had to do with a very quick and attacking defense from Ashland.

 

I don't like losing and I hate to be shut out but koudos to the Tomcats. You are everybit as good as we have said you are.

 

BTW, my second grade JFL team played in and won it's very first tackle game today 28-26 against East Carter. Way to TCB little Rams!!!!!

Is Highlands still in their class?

 

Yes. If Campbell County handled them in a scrimmage, I'm pretty sure Highlands will have their way with them. Campbell County last to Norwood,OH which isn't a real strong program last night. Campbell is probably in the 6-10 range for NKY teams.

I want to speak to Ram fans, especially those that seem to know a better offensive game plan than the coaches. Normally, I can't hear what is being yelled from the stands. For some reason, as when I played, I completely block out the stands. Mrs. Sidelinedoc fills me in on all the coaching from the stands when we get home and it amuses me. Now, for what I heard coming from the stands last night regarding what plays to call. You guys are way out of your league when it comes to what Coach Hoof calls. Last night's play selection was actually pretty good. Not every call was correct, heck, he'd tell you that. However, it was the players execution that was terrible. Routes were ran wrong, passes thrown to the wrong receiver, backs not in the right hole and lineman missing assignments. If any of these things occur on any single play, it blows up. And sometimes, the defense just whips you and blows up the play. Every play ever drawn up is designed to score a touchdown. How many touchdowns does the average team have in any particular game? 3 maybe 4. That means that either the offense did not run the play correctly or the defense blew it up. So, before all you bleacher coaches give up on the coaching staff or the team, ask yourself one question......."How many game plans have I installed and how many schools have called for my input". Heck, I am on the sidelines and have been at Raceland for 4 years and not once has Coach Hoof or Maynard turned and ask me what would be a good call. For that matter, I have been involved with football as a team doc for 17 years and even though I confess to have decent football knowledge, I couldn't design or prepare a game plan for next weeks game. So, for those who were screaming at the coaches and being negative or to those who know who they are, STOP IT! If you want to yell, be positive and support the team. If I want to hear negativity, I'll watch the nightly news. I believe the coaches are very good and I support them. I believe 31-9 in 3 plus years is pretty good. Only losses in that time span to area teams are one to Ashland, Russell, East and West Carter. So, unless ESPN calls needing you on the set for your input or a local team calls and wants you to be an offensive coordinator, please just go back to cheering for the Rams. It is very embarrassing to the kids and the school to hear such "stuff" from the fans.

Now I might be on the Ashland bandwagon again, but I'm not riding it into the playoffs! That's when they are guaranteed to run into Highlands and that's never pretty. Do you really think they can compete with Highlands this year?

:notworthy: Great post! I didn't hear any grumbling down where I was, but I usually purposely sit down away from the throngs. I didn't think the play calling was bad, but the execution at times was off. I thought that had more to do with Ashland's awesome defense than it did anything myself.

 

I saw you action taping up #77's head! I started to go down to the railing and introduce myself but you were very busy and I didn't want to bother you. Maybe next game i will make a "Sidelinedoc 3:16" poster. :lol:

Another thought since I am on a roll.........I would much rather play a good 5A school and get my butt whipped than to play some little rinky dink, haven't won a game since Columbus sailed to the Caribbean, school and win by 40 or 50. We will be a better team for playing Boyd, Ashland, Fleming, Greenup and East Carter before entering District play. I promise you that.:thumb:
