It's about time Ashland woke up and stopped letting a 1A school compete with them. Congrats Tomcats and good luck the rest of the season.

Rams learned tonight speed kills. I am really impressed though with Farley's ability to stand in the pocket and make throws. For a first year starter he shows no fear back there, but a couple times he tried a little too long for something to develop or dumped it off short for losses and took a couple of sacks. Still though rhat is better than forcing a throw and turning it over multiple times. Overall I was really impressed with his arm.

 

Rams went down 16-0 in 2nd but went on a good drive. Mckee just needed about one more inch of fingers to haul in a huge play that might have shifted momentum, after that missed opportunity there was just nothing doing. Tomcats defense was swarming to the ball. A couple of times Rams running backs got a glimpse of day light, but they just didn't have the extra gear like others did in the past to get through the hole. Wish Barr could have played they could use him.

 

Ashland is simply better. They are not big, but they are fast and their line has quick feet and gets off the ball well. Alger played a great game and if he gets a sliver day light he simply has another gear and before you know it he is 20 yards down the field. I couldn't even tell they were missing Carter, they didn't skip a beat.

 

Tomcats were just the better team. Rams have to shake this one off and get ready for Fleming County. For Ashland the 2009 season is so bright they might want to look into wearing sunglasses under their helmets.

I got one question for the coaching staff for the Rams. Where was McKee in the second half ? Did he get hurt ? He's got to be in the game for you guy's. I watched the Boyd - Raceland game and saw him on the sidelines alot that game too. This young man has too good of hands to not utilize him more. IMO. The corners better battin' down the hatches before Fleming. They will light them up if they don't. Farley needs to bring the air out of his passes too. I saw a lot of over the head passes, underpasses that the Rams could have made something out of. He telegraphs a lot of his passes too. Keys those eyes on 1 reciever. Hopefully he will grow out of these since this is only his second start.

So...somebody give us some details about what this game looked like. Did Farley not look as impressive as last week? Was Ashland's speed the deciding factor as many predicted? What was the difference?

He appeared to be pretty rattled with the pass rush at times. He moves his feet way to much. You have to set those feet. Every D will focus on the rush when they get to see the tapes. I ,personally, am not overly impressed yet with his play. He is getting completions but he is hanging his recievers out alot and that could get them hurt. Just my opinion and i'm not a professional by no means.

Ashland's defense has been pretty dominating. The Tomcats have outscored their opponents 82–7 in two games.

 

Question, are you guys going to be labeling them something like "Jaws 2009"? I am child of the 70's and I certainly remember those "Jaws" defenses. Ashland had and a couple of coaches named Herb Conley and Bill Tom Ross. Seems to me I also remember that Ross guy at Raceland for a while.

Not from all of us Graybeard, there esere a few that were telling everyone just how good your Tomcats are and we were accused of sandbagging :ohbrother:.

As for some of the other post by all of us, you can't blame a guy for having a little fun can you? That might fall in the pot meet kettle category.:lol:

I didn't think that Raceland would get shutout. Ashland must have a good team this year I see them winning their district and playing Highlands in the playoffs.

The Tomcats are looking good (especially the defense). We're doing well locally - and it's great. Walking tall at the mall is fun. But, there are some powerful teams on the schedule that aren't from around here. I keep remembering the reports I read of the Campbell Co. scrimmage and it keeps me humble.

 

We travel to Belfry next - and they're always good.

I think this will make GC look a little better in alot of peoples eyes.

Since I'm back to reality now and not picking against Ashland, I have to say that Ashland will beat Belfry next week. Belfry lost to Prestonsburg and only beat Boyd County by 2 TD's, so this must not be the typical Belfry team. The biggest challenges are ahead for Ashland are Ironton and probably still Johnson Central, even though they have lost their first 2. I really hope Ashland can win their district, though, so they wouldn't have to see Highlands until the 3rd round of the playoffs. In any case, they should have a good season.

I want to congratulate seniors Royalty, DeMartino, and Kosakowski on having outstanding games. Senior leadership is especially important in high school football. I'm proud of all of this year's seniors.

I just go back from the grocery store to get some milk for the kids breakfast. I thought for sure I would see Ram and sidelinedoc's pictures on some of the milk cartons. I'm really worried now.

I also believe I heard them say that this was the first Raceland football team to have been shut out in something like 19 years! I believe the last shoutout agaionst us ws in 1990. Not sure of thst is correct but I know it has been a long time.

First shut out since 1990, versus Bellvue in the playoffs, 10-0, my junior year, at least that record is off my back.:lol:

Central has lost to two really good teams, and Belfry is still Belfry. Any Jim Matney and Phillip Haywood coached team is a threat to win every game they are in, regardless of the talent on the field...eggs before they are hatched Parker
