I want to speak to Ram fans, especially those that seem to know a better offensive game plan than the coaches. Normally, I can't hear what is being yelled from the stands. For some reason, as when I played, I completely block out the stands. Mrs. Sidelinedoc fills me in on all the coaching from the stands when we get home and it amuses me. Now, for what I heard coming from the stands last night regarding what plays to call. You guys are way out of your league when it comes to what Coach Hoof calls. Last night's play selection was actually pretty good. Not every call was correct, heck, he'd tell you that. However, it was the players execution that was terrible. Routes were ran wrong, passes thrown to the wrong receiver, backs not in the right hole and lineman missing assignments. If any of these things occur on any single play, it blows up. And sometimes, the defense just whips you and blows up the play. Every play ever drawn up is designed to score a touchdown. How many touchdowns does the average team have in any particular game? 3 maybe 4. That means that either the offense did not run the play correctly or the defense blew it up. So, before all you bleacher coaches give up on the coaching staff or the team, ask yourself one question......."How many game plans have I installed and how many schools have called for my input". Heck, I am on the sidelines and have been at Raceland for 4 years and not once has Coach Hoof or Maynard turned and ask me what would be a good call. For that matter, I have been involved with football as a team doc for 17 years and even though I confess to have decent football knowledge, I couldn't design or prepare a game plan for next weeks game. So, for those who were screaming at the coaches and being negative or to those who know who they are, STOP IT! If you want to yell, be positive and support the team. If I want to hear negativity, I'll watch the nightly news. I believe the coaches are very good and I support them. I believe 31-9 in 3 plus years is pretty good. Only losses in that time span to area teams are one to Ashland, Russell, East and West Carter. So, unless ESPN calls needing you on the set for your input or a local team calls and wants you to be an offensive coordinator, please just go back to cheering for the Rams. It is very embarrassing to the kids and the school to hear such "stuff" from the fans.

 

Good post. I think it's just human nature, though, particularly for fans who are getting spoiled by winning, to try to pin the loss on something they can control rather than just admitting the loss was something Knute Rockne himself couldn't even have prevented! Ashland is obviously just better this year, way better. End of story. No matter what plays were called, it's likely that Ashland's speedy defenders would have handled anything that came their way.

 

For example, I have often been amazed in the past at the many people who will criticize Ivan McGlone at Russell during down years. The guy has coached for over 30 years, won a ton of games, and won 2 state titles, but yet you'll still hear people saying he doesn't know what plays to call when Russell loses. Please. Raceland has a very good coaching staff and what they have accomplished the last few years should be respected. I agree with your post, though. Hey, Ashland was just the better team this year. You won't see another team like that on the schedule until LCA. Get the injured players back and just get better until then.

:notworthy: Great post! I didn't hear any grumbling down where I was, but I usually purposely sit down away from the throngs. I didn't think the play calling was bad, but the execution at times was off. I thought that had more to do with Ashland's awesome defense than it did anything myself.

 

I saw you action taping up #77's head! I started to go down to the railing and introduce myself but you were very busy and I didn't want to bother you. Maybe next game i will make a "Sidelinedoc 3:16" poster. :lol:

Another thought since I am on a roll.........I would much rather play a good 5A school and get my butt whipped than to play some little rinky dink, haven't won a game since Columbus sailed to the Caribbean, school and win by 40 or 50. We will be a better team for playing Boyd, Ashland, Fleming, Greenup and East Carter before entering District play. I promise you that.:thumb:

On a serious note, congrats to Ashland, your team seems to be pretty dang special from all that I have heard and seen. I look forward to watching you for the rest of the year.

 

And to Raceland, last night wasn't your best effort, and it shows. By now you know what you have to work on, so keep your heads up, and get back to work. Do not dwell on this one game. Use it as a learning experience, so that you will not make the same mistakes again. Trust me, you will be O.K.

Bottom line: We got whipped by a better Ashland football team, no other way to say it. The Tomcat defense was the difference, Raceland's offense was non existent all night. What plays we had we blew them, mostly due to the Tomcat dominating "Jaws 09'" defense. Kudos to the Ashland fans as well, as always, you guys were class acts :thumb:. I honestly believe this is the Tomcats year and have been saying that all along. I hope you guys win em all the rest of the way out.:thumb:

As for what one poster said about losing to Ashland, I agree in that for a class A progam like Raceland it can sometimes be more benificial to take a loss to a powerful 5A school like Ashland (and we win our share of those) than to play a "sisters of the poor" and win big like some other schools do, class A and higher.

I look foward to and just hope that Barr can come back full strength along with Rister at 100% on both sides of the ball. Those two are missed very badly. Raceland will be alright, this is early in a season with a team that lost alot of firepower from last years unbeaten Rams. There is still plenty of talent and potential and as always an over flowing of Ram Pride! You also have the entire district and conference season left and it is time to get re focused and go back to Raceland Ram Pride Fooball guys!

 

Fleming County is next, pick up that lunch box...go to work.....practice hard every play, every drill....concentrate on and get the game plan down that your coaches put before you, they know what they are doing reagardles of what some of the "bleacher coaches"say, negativity breeds negativity and there is no place or it here!..........

 

Rams, this entire season is before you, no harm has been done unless you let it happen. Learn from this loss and go on to another district/EKC championship and beyond.

I agree to an extend but it's never good for kids to wore out like tonight's game. Sometimes it's good for a team to work on things against a lesser team, kids aren't stupid they know what they are playing against. Ashland has a great team, and Raceland is average. Good luck to both teams rest of season.
