RM says I pigeonholed males by saying we didn't want to and probably did not actually read Shakespaere in HS.

I loved Shakespeare in high school, and I love Shakespeare now... I've got the collection of all of his works, and pop it out for the occasional reading.

I read it for class. Didn't go out looking for more Shakespeare, but I liked what we read. I didn't understand most of it, but it's kind of like music: you don't really have to get all the words to enjoy the song.

Read it and watched the old movie of it. Let's say the teacher came running up front during a certain scene of the movie....a little late. The only excitement from anything Shakespeare.

Didn't read it all but did enough to pass it. Didn't feel one way or the other about it really. It was OK.

I like Shakespeare but I never enjoyed reading anything for school. I always had to read things on my own time to really get in to it.

LBBC, what you going for with this thread? Anything more than RM's claim of you pigeon-holing (i.e. claiming that results of this poll indicate the value of reading Shakespeare) are off-base IMO. But if all you are trying to do is validate your claim against RM's, then go for it.

I read a lot of it, too. I've also acted out scenes & given speeches to a class...all because of Billy Shakespeare!

Mr. Burke: Right. Who else? Well, you know someone else was involved in that movie who in some ways is as famous as Leonardo Di Caprio. And his name is William Shakespeare. And some great movies have been made based on his plays: Hamlet, West Side Story, The Talented Mr. Ripley, Waterworld, Gladiator...

Just for the record, Shakespeare isn't an "it"; he's a person. So there's a lot more to Willie's work than just the ever-popular Romeo & Juliet.

Read enough to get by in high school. Didn't really care for it... of course, I didn't really have a care for much of anything when I was in high school. I rediscovered Shakespeare in college and am a great fan of a lot of his work. King Lear, Henry IV and Henry V are among my favorites.
