August 23, 200917 yr Tomorrow will be a teacher day and then Tuesday is students return to my jr/high school. What is your favorite thing about the 1st day of school. I love the smell of pencils, crayons and new paper(so I'm strange so what), I love seeing the students again, I love seeing the excitement of the football players about the new season(I teach in Ohio). What about college 1st day? I might add to this post that I have already picked my retirement date 6-1-2019, 10 more years to go.
August 24, 200917 yr Best things about 1st days are that you usually do nothing which is nice. Its all about getting you stuff you need to get along with other little details which is awesome.
August 24, 200917 yr First day? We've already taught 13 days down here! Enjoy the opener. It usually flies by in a complete blur.
August 24, 200917 yr I work out of a home office about 40% of the time. Since my wife is an employee of the school district my kids attend, I love the first day of school. No more making sure the kids are quiet when I'm on the phone. No more interruptions to fix a flat bike tire. No more of having the wife come into my office just to "hang out" while I'm trying to get things accomplished for work. I love the first day of school! And yes, I make sure I am working at home the first week of school.
August 24, 200917 yr My wife is a 5th grade teacher. She says she loves knowing that she has an entire year before she is assessed through testing, etc.

My mom was a special ed teacher for Mason County High School and retired last year after 27 years. He counted down for about 5 years. I loved seeing all the people again.
