If you are a Conner fan you have to be concerned, right? This is supposed to be their year and they just got by a 1A school in their second scrimmage... and this was the first scrimmage for the 1A school?

 

I realize it is Beechwood and they have to be a strong favorite to repeat in 1A (yawn) but I expected more from the Cougars.

 

What am I missing?

Conner 4 possession's 3 TD's. Did not score on opening drive mostly because of poor snap that costs them 15 yards on second down.

Last scoring drive covered 98 yards and was done with 2nd team line and WR's.

On a side note, NKY 6A should be awesome this year!

And as is typical in a scrimmage, Beechwood didn't play their first team backfield after the first possession of the second half plus rotated players freely in the second half trying different players at different positions. The 98 yard "drive" was primarily a nice, tackle breaking 65-70 yard TD run by Pugh. So with second team players rotating in on both teams, it is hard to get too excited or concerned. It was a scrimmage. However, for the Conner fans, I thought their offense really got on track in the second half against a team that is known for good defense, even if it is a 1A school. If I were a Conner fan, I would be feeling pretty good going into game one.

This was also only Conner's first scrimmage, not there second.

This is correct. Connor is playing the first game of the Oldham County Kickoff Classic at South Oldham High School against OLDHAM COUNTY.

IMO…Conner has a lot of work to do before playing with the big dogs. I thought B'Wood made them look mediocre while playing with an undersized line on both sides. Also, feel free to correct me DD, but I think West took "every" snap for the Varsity team while B’Wood rotated freely the entire game at nearly every “key” position.

 

Let's not forget the Conner interception at the goal-line as B'Wood was marching it down the field...also the anxious Tiger "D" gave them at least two 1st downs by jumping on 3rd down to keep drives alive...and the final Conner touchdown by Pugh was sweet; however, "everyone" in the entire stadium thought he was down...and then he somehow squirted out from under the pile and got outside for a 60yd TD. Beautiful run, but “no doubt” should have been wrapped-up at the line of scrimmage.

 

There is a ton of optimism coming out of Hebron this season, but there just “has to be” some big concerns after that showing.

Wow, Crunch Time I appreciate you playing the devils advocate so early in the season and I'm sure the coaches share some of your same concerns! Lets face it, just like in the pros the score of a scrimage game is secondary! The only reason their is any optimism in Hebron is because of a winning season last year after going 1 and 9 the previous season! Losing Scooter on offense and basically replacing their entire O-line is HUGE! Not to mention losing two of top defensive ends in NKY! Lets face it, just like in the pros the score of a scrimage game is secondary! Just like in the pros where the QB does a hard hut hut in the shotgun and then checks to see if a blitz is coming. Conner did quite a bit of that. If QB thinks there is a blitz, he checks off and then goes with th e real snap call. If no blitz, then he goes ahead with the "real" snap call. Beechwood bit on the hard cadence and went offsides. And it was a good lesson for Beechwood's inexperienced defensive line - something that I guarantee you will not work against BW in regular season. But I bet Conner picks up offsides calls on a regular basis during the season with that hard count.

Not likely, based on how well they executed it last season, but that is one of the questions with a new O-line!
