tenaciousD Posted August 11, 2009 Posted August 11, 2009 ARE OUTRAGEOUS :madman::madman::madman::madman::madman::madman::irked::irked::irked: Just purchased 5 books and one online disc that accompanied my course from my wonderful book store for 1099.24. That ladies and gentlemen is a stinking travesty. I will be paying 5000.00 in student loans on books alone by the time I graduate college.
Theoldguy Posted August 11, 2009 Posted August 11, 2009 You know I still don't understand why Universities can't sell/rent E-books to their students for a fraction of the cost of a bound book. Well yes I do, it's a huge way to make money for not only the University but the Professors! Show me the money.....

I feel for you man. It's all a scam though like you said.

Blue Magic Posted August 12, 2009 Posted August 12, 2009 I usually try to get mine off of EBAY for a fraction of what they are in stores. Also, I don't usually care if a book is an edition or two off because they all have basically the same information from year to year anyways. And they are a ton cheaper than the newest versions.
stick1 Posted August 12, 2009 Posted August 12, 2009 I feel you! I've already paid mine for both degrees. My favorite part of the whole deal is when you go to sell them back. Get ready for "thank you for buying this $300 book...we would like to offer you $25 to buy it back!"
dmderringer10 Posted August 12, 2009 Posted August 12, 2009 I refuse to buy books from my campus bookstore. I get them off half.com or ebay. It's a money saver...plus you'll get more money for them if you sell them that way too
ScarHeel Posted August 12, 2009 Posted August 12, 2009 Did nobody tell you about the sites Derringer mentioned???
GaViking Posted August 12, 2009 Posted August 12, 2009 When we had are taxes prepared by a professional company we were told we couldn't deduct the books if they were bought on line. I think this is terrible. We had to have a receipt from the college bookstore. Another way to rip off the taxpayer.
tenaciousD Posted August 12, 2009 Author Posted August 12, 2009 Did nobody tell you about the sites Derringer mentioned??? The problem was that with 6 new books, I just wasn't able to raise the cash to buy them outright from ebay or amazon. That's why I had to apply for a student loan that would take care of them immediately...I saw the price, and nearly puked...
TrueBlueWildcat Posted August 12, 2009 Posted August 12, 2009 I can't even believe people still buy textbooks from campus bookstores. 90% of the time you can find the same book on amazon.com, half.com, or ebay.com for well under half of the bookstore cost. I have worked in a campus bookstore, and surprisingly, they don't charge much over the cost of what they bought it for, well at least at Morehead though. On most books they sold I believe the bookstore made a $6.00 profit of a lot of the books.
HammerTime Posted August 12, 2009 Posted August 12, 2009 Get the ISN # for your books and buy them on http://www.half.com. You can get great deals. Sorry didn't see all you guys other posts.
bigblueinsanity Posted August 12, 2009 Posted August 12, 2009 half.com is amazing. I got my Accounting book which was $225 at the bookstore for $25 dollars there. I got my Microeconomics book for $20 which was $80 at the book store.

Same here...also look for the international editions. They're literally exactly the same book, but sold out of Singapore or something. I had a book that was supposed to $175 at the bookstore that I ended up getting an international edition for $50 on Ebay.
