I grew up with his brother and was at their house pretty much every day as a kid. I just haven't talked to Jason in a while. Glad to hear he is still doing well...

Hey age has it's advantages, I get discounts on food, tickets to movies and games cost less and some more stuff but the real down side is I have to put up with young guys like you! :D

TAC, thanks for reminding me of Frank Jacobs. Please help me confirm or

debunk a myth/legend. A friend of mine insists that Frank has two of the

longest outs in 9th region history. He said that in the Regional Championship

game vs. CCH, at the original Thomas More baseball field (which had no fences),

Frank hit two balls that were caught in right field, 450 feet from home. Is this

myth or legend?

 

I'm not sure in actual feet and inches, but I was there to see him hit both of those shots, and at that time there were several large trees in right field and the right fielder was standing along side them when he caught both balls.

I also so personally witnessed him hit one out at Newport that hit the school on a fly!!! But that wasn't his whole game, he was also one of the best fielding first baseman I've seen at that level.

Doug Losey 1980, 1981 9th Region Player of the year. His Varsity record was something like 16 -1 with an ERA under 1.00. He hit over .380 both Jr. and Senior year, with around 5 or 6 HR's each year.

 

I recognize the offensive numbers are not as high as some of the more recent ones, but in that stretch of the early 80's he was in the top ten in all offensive categories (except Steals) and top 3 in all Pitch categories.

I Know Kevin Hutchinson on LLoyd hit probably one of the longest homeruns in 9th Region History against Cov Catholic....watching the game was Reds scout Charlie Leftin who said the shot was a RED SEATER FOR SURE....anyhow, he hit the roof of the house up on the roadway in left centerfield at Covington Catholics field.

I know Doug had at least 2 losses in high school...He lost to LLOYD twice in 1980 2-1 at Newcath against Tim Pumphrey in 1980 during regular season and again during the 1980 9th regional tournament at Boone County he lost 9-3 against Pumphrey again. He was an excellent pitcher however.

I truly hope that anything "Pre-1980" really isn't considered not modern day. So with that in mind how about a few of these? Yes, pre-1980 is ancient. Most people from this era are probably long since six feet under. The "young, modern" era starts in 1981, which coincidentally happens to be the year I graduated.

We 70's era players, despite the heavy cotton uniforms, the 40-ounce wooden rolling pins we used as bats and the "dead" baseballs, still managed to put together a pretty respectable game. And by the way Coop, I've seen ya', "young" and "modern" are not two words that readily come to mind!!! :lol:
