Jelani Brandon was one of the finest athletes in NKY in the last 20 years. IMO he could have played Wr on the biggest stage, he was a true game changer.

What about Rocky Pangallo from NC in the late 70's early 80's also play at EKU.. Heck of an Centerfielder...

I'd add Jeff Wera (Beechwood - '04) at the catcher position.

Since we already have named some big leaguers, let's start by listing players that made it to at least AAA level.

 

Chris Hook, LHP from Lloyd, played in the majors.

 

Jim Bunning? Leo Foster? Or is that too far in the past?

 

Also, what is considered "modern day" players? Since 1960?

 

Yes, Jim Bunning has been in the news a lot lately. I had the pleasure of meeting him. It's amazing that he played in the majors for 17 years and the records he set. I knew he was born in Northern Kentucky, but I thought that he went to school in Ohio.

Bunning graduated from St. X in Cincy.

A conversation came up at a graduation party. With Luke Maile winning Mr.

Baseball, an argument can be made that he is the best ever modern day player

in the 9th Region. Since the 1980's, who else would you put on a list of best-ever by position?

Glaser (Highlands) was a 2nd round pick by the BoSox in '97. He and Pfetzer were a dominant 1-2 when post-seson play came around. Also, Nick Skidmore from CovCath was a great player.

TAC, thanks for reminding me of Frank Jacobs. Please help me confirm or

debunk a myth/legend. A friend of mine insists that Frank has two of the

longest outs in 9th region history. He said that in the Regional Championship

game vs. CCH, at the original Thomas More baseball field (which had no fences),

Frank hit two balls that were caught in right field, 450 feet from home. Is this

myth or legend?

 

I know that he hit Newport High School. I hadn't heard your legend.

I knew of the Newport high school shot. The longest bomb I heard of him hitting was the roof in the Metro dome when ND played Minnesota--and he was on a scholarship for football!

I'm not familiar with Jim Cutter either. When did he play, what position?...did he move on to the pros or college?

 

Jim went to play baseball at NKU and had an outstanding career. I do believe he did play his way through a couple of injuries. He is a member of N.K.A.D.A. hall of fame and I'm sure many other accolades have graced the walls of his home.

Banana slug this is no myth, two balls hit a least that far. I believe one of them was hit by Brian Hiagas(sp) who went on to NKU to play baseball. The other by Frank. I don't think anyone knows the distance but well over 400 feet would not be far fetched at all. Look at the tree in center at Thomas more past the fence one was caught under it. Anyone who was ther in 1987 would not forget them

I was there. Pat Roesel or Scott Tranter caught the ball 400+ in the grove of CF trees which is now behind the TMC centerfield fence.

 

Need to add Robby Newman to the list from CCH '88 - until Maile, best hitter I saw out of CCH.
