One good thing about this is we don't have to go over how bad he is every time he gives up a lead.

Weathers was a solid performer for the Reds. I wish him well. Stand up guy.

Stand up guy.

:thumb: Very much so. He met with my grandfather, before he passed, this past Summer just to throw BP with him.

From the same link as before...

Weathers was told before the game.

“Initially, you’re excited to go to a team that has a good shot at the playoffs,” Weathers said, “to get back into the atmosphere. I’ve already played for Milwaukee. I really enjoyed Milwaukee. I’m excited to go there. I’ll be reunited with Billy Castro, one of my best friends in baseball, and Todd Coffey.

“But our family had adopted the Reds organization. I really thought it was where I’d end my career. But, in this game, things don’t go like you plan them.

“We’re going to miss Cincinnati, my family and I. They’ve been very good to us. The city’s been very good to us. I love my teammates.

“It’s a good day. But to be honest, it’s tough day emotionally because you form a lot of bonds with guys you’ve been with five, six years. You don’t find that every day, especially in this game.

“As excited as I am to get that race, at the same time, I’m sad that I leaving. My kids are very upset about not being able to be with the people they know.”

I think that last line is one we don't think about much. These guys have great lives money wise and playing the game the love. Moves like this is tough on kids!

I guess all of the naysayers were correct, it was all Weathers fault as the Reds are 1-0 without him.

Funny. Every Red whom I have bashed are no more. hmm.....:D

And they still suck. You're obviously bashing the wrong guys. hmm :D

The GM doesn't seem to think so...

The TV guys were saying the player to be named might end up being J.J. Hardy, Milwaukee shortstop. Is there anyone a little more familiar with the situation who might could speak to that?

Hardy would be an upgrade. I would be OK with that deal.

Weathers was a good guy and performed solidly for the Reds, but at $3.3 M and 40 years old, he was expendable.

I would be absolutely shocked & thrilled if JJ Hardy was the player we got in return for David Weathers.

I'd imagine the player will be a mid to upper level prospect.

I, like many, was easily frustrated with Weathers. But the fact remains that he's a quality reliever & a true professional, both on & off the field. I hate to see a guy go who truly wanted to be here, but it's a business.

Regardless of who we get in exchange, I think this trade will improve the Reds' future. I think it also shows the confidence that the organization has in Nick Masset & (gulp) Jared Burton.
