July 9, 200917 yr If you don't like any rap or hip-hop songs, or if you really like hip-hop in general, then this thread isn't designed for you. As for those of us who generally dislike the genre, which songs (if any) do you like? My personal favorite: Let Me Clear My Throat- DJ Kool

This is one of the most interesting threads I have seen since joining BGP's last year. Koudos cch5432 for thinking of this one.

I also have always liked Digital Underground. EU is strong. I like the DC Go Go sound as well.
July 9, 200917 yr Author I also like "Excuse Me Miss Again" by Jay-Z- any rap song referring to Yao Ming toking is an instant classic.
July 9, 200917 yr I don't know enough about rap or hip-hop to know what qualifies and what doesn't.:idunno:

July 9, 200917 yr I hardly know how to distinguish between the two either. Someone could clear it up for us.... The way I see it, Hip-Hop is a lifestyle or state of mind, while Rap is just the music that "rappers" put out. Some R&B can even be considered "Hip-Hop." I think mainstream artists got away from using the word "Rap" when it started carrying a negative connotation, and then just started claiming that they were bigger than just Rap and that they were Hip-Hop. Thats just my opinion but. . . :idunno:
July 9, 200917 yr I don't know much about hip hop, but the first song that comes to mind with me is Dr. Evil and Mini Me in "Hard Knock Life"
July 10, 200917 yr I don't much care for a lot of what's out in the hip-hop genre these days, but that's more because I've just moved away from that than me actually disliking it. I just haven't heard much new stuff that makes me say "wow," which is an important factor for me in choosing new music. For what it's worth, two of the more prominent posters on my garage wall are from Run DMC and Public Enemy. Regularly spinning on my wheels of steel are: "Low End Theory" by Tribe Called Quest "Enter The Wu (36 Chambers)" by Wu-Tang Clan "Paul's Boutique" by Beastie Boys I have been actively searching for quality vinyl copies of: "King Of Rock" by Run DMC "It Takes A Nation Of Millions To Hold Us Back" by Public Enemy "Straight Outta Compton" by NWA "Wu-Tang Forever" by Wu-Tang Clan "Radio" by LL Cool J "The Chronic" by Dr. Dre "Doggystyle" by Snoop Doggy Dogg "Ready To Die" and "Life After Death" by Biggie Smalls

July 11, 200917 yr Those are some good albums, Nation of Millions was my first rap tape, along with Eric B and Rakim's "Paid in full". That's another one to add to the list. One of the things that kills me about my vinyl addiction is that I'm rebuying a lot of stuff, in some cases for the second or third time. I've got "Paid In Full" on cassette and CD, and have two of the songs off the album on 12" singles. But, alas, it's all good.
