July 5, 200917 yr SEC has speed all over the field at all positions. USC is really the only other team tha has the team speed of the SEC teams. Agree with other Quotes on this thread speed is the difference between the good and the real good teams. FSU and UM have that kind of speed, their teams just aren't doing as well. Athletically they can matchup with anyone though, look at where they get their players from. Not skillwise, but I actually think those two have more "athletes" than USC and many of the SEC schools. They aren't as fast as UF or possibly LSU, but they have plenty of speed. If you don't believe me look at NFL rosters.
July 5, 200917 yr The Big 12 imo has cemented themselves as the undisputed #2 conference. As others have said, the SEC's teams, athletes from top to bottom are imo unmatched by anyone, the SEC is in no danger of losing "the best" label as far as football. JMO

JMO I think the ACC will get into the conversation of #2 in the next few years. I don't know if they can ever be #1 because of teams like Duke and Virginia, but I think they can possibly pass the Big 12. You have teams like Miami and FSU that are building back up to what they used to be, a team on the rise (with the best recruiter/eye for talent in the country Butch Davis) in UNC, tough smashmouth Georgia Tech, and the Hokies at VT. I think in 5 years it will possibly pass the Big 12, and become the conference people thought it would be. I think UNC is going to be the next program to jump from the abyss into a legit, top program, that is how much faith I have in ole' Butch. I still don't see anyone having the amount of athletes and coaching caliber that is in the SEC, but I think the ACC will eventually be a conference that is recognized along with the SEC and Big 12 as the best 3 conferences in America.

First of all, I have always felt like no matter the record, Virginia Tech is 2nd tier. I just don't think they have the overall talent of the title contenders. But they are a good team. I think UNC is a sleeping giant though. I think it is possible that they win a title within the next 10 years, if Butch stays there. He is bringing in great talent, and it's only going to get better. But, most importantly you and I both feel that the strength of the conference depends on the U and FSU. I think both of those teams are on their way back, but I don't think it will show until 2010. FSU lost alot, including most of their WR. They do have alot of talent though, I just see them winning 8-10 and no one talking about them. The only problem there is that I think Bowden is done, and I really don't think Jimbo is the right man for the job. I may be wrong, but most say that he has basically run the show for the last few years anyway and it's not impressive. With Miami, I think they are one potentially of the 5 most talented teams in the country. The only problem is that it is all in the freshman and sophomore classes. If they can manage to navigate to 2-2 through a tough first 4 weeks, I think people may take notice of them by the end of the season. Either way, I actually really like Randy Shannon at the U, I think he will get them back to the top. Once they start winning again, I think that he will honestly out-recruit UF in the state of Florida, where as is the are about even right now and UF is a title contender and Miami won 7 games last year. In any sense, I would love for the two Florida powers to return to glory, if for no other reason that "Little" big brother UF has not only become the dominant team in Florida but one of the premier teams in all of the NCAA. Maybe I'm a little 80's and 90's minded, but College Football, to me, should be... 1. Miami 2. FSU 3. USC 4. SEC elite 5. Big 12 Elite 6. Everyone else. 118. OSU 119. They may be in title contention for much of the year (which I don't expect, I think Bama will take them to the woodshed), but they do not have the overall talent level to beat a team like the Gators or Sooners. I really don't think it's that VT is that good, I think it's just that Miami and FSU have fallen off the map. Much like WVU the last few years. They are not on USC, UF, and others level. GO GATORS. I have to disagree. I think that, especially athletically they are on par with anyone. The problem is that players just do not get developed. Look at Myron Rolle, he was the #1 prospect in his class, and though he was a very good college player he never turned into the huge superstar that he could have been. As far as talent, they all recruit Florida well so I don't buy it. UF has no more of a stranglehold over Florida talent than anyone else does. Speed wise I just don't buy it. I think the things that have led to Miami and FSU's demise rest on coaching and the culture of mediocrity that have set in. Not saying that UF or USC don't have some great players, but the overall talent and athleticism level is not that far off. I do feel that both the U and FSU are world's behind the best in college football in terms of coaching, but I think Shannon could become adequate. I don't think he becomes Pete Carroll (best players coach since Jimmy Johnson), Urban Meyer (best motivator), Jim Tressell (best coach in the country, IMO, and I hate Ohio State), or Nick Saban (most knowledgable coach in the NCAA). But don't give me the athleticism stuff, because it just isn't what's there.
July 9, 200917 yr ^^^ Some what. I don't know though, Texas won their game despite being in a bowl they didn't want to be in. Oklahoma held their own against the SEC's best, and with a break here or there may have won the game. The 3 drives they were stopped on in the first half should have resulted in 17 points, but they can away empty handed (twice at the one yard line after driving down the field) if they convert those they might be the defending champions. Texas Tech was exposed, but what did you expect? OK State is a product of the style of play in the Big 12. Honestly, the Pac 10 was underrated last year, and the team that I thought was the best in the country (USC) suffered because of it.
