Greatest Little Men in Basketball History

Featured Replies

They had this discussion on Mike and Mike this morning and I wanted to open it up to folks on this site. Who are some of the great "little" men in basketball history? I think 6'2" and shorter is a good definition. The list from the show included:

Allen Iverson

Bob Cousy

John Stockton

Tiny Archibald

Calvin Murphy

Isiah Thomas

Mark Jackson

Lenny Wilkins

and I would throw in Steve Nash (I think he is listed at 6'2" or 6'3").

Are there others? Who is the best?

For my money, Isiah was the greatest. He has the rings and the numbers and was one of the most clutch players ever.

I'll take Stockton. He wasn't flashy, but he was a great player for a long, long time.

I'll go with Nate "The Skate" Archibald. Saw him play the last year of the Cincinnati Royals at the Gardens. Of course they were beat by the Chicago Bulls. I think he won a championship in Boston ? Also won the scoring championship in his career.

I was 7yrs old and taller than he was :D

No Spud or Mugsy?

Compared to the guys mentioned...these guys aren't even close, IMO.

The nine mentioned are all HOF'ers or will be. Spud Webb and Mugsy Bogues aren't that caliber of player.

Chris Paul's about the same height as Iverson, and I'd say he's on his way to being a legend in New Orleans.

I'll take Stockton. He wasn't flashy, but he was a great player for a long, long time.

I agree Stockton, one of the greatest point guards of all time, and the shortest shorts.

Jerry West should be on there.

The "Logo" was 6'2", right? He should be on the list and may be my new number 1!

Zeke could fill it up with the best of them and the nickname "Mr. Clutch" says it all in terms of his abilities in crunch time.

I agree Stockton, one of the greatest point guards of all time, and the shortest shorts.

I agree on this.

I vote for Spud...:taz:

What about Tim Hardaway? (6')

Maurice Cheeks was 6' 1". How tall was Andrew Toney?

Norm Nixon was about 6' 2" and a big part of the Laker's first 2 titles of the 80's.

Those were a few I thought of off the top.

6'2 wasn't "small" when Zeke from Cabin Creek played.

Calvin Murphy 5'9" and started for years in Houston. Held the record for consecutive FTs made for a long time.
