June 17, 200917 yr Could there be a more boring topic? I know, I know. I had to spice up the title to hopefully attract some attention. Anyway, I am in need of a new vacuum cleaner. Does anyone have one that they love? I am not talking about a $2000 Dirt-Be-Gone-Omatic, but a reasonably priced model.
June 17, 200917 yr I bought an Oreck off of QVC and absolutely love it. We got for just over $200 shipped, and haven't regretted it one bit. It is just the basic Oreck, but it does a remarkable job.
June 17, 200917 yr We have a Sears cannister vac with the attachments that are stored on the cannister. Is very good quality and has settings for both hardwood and carpet. I much prefer the cannister style over the upright types. I think the cost is around 300-400??
June 17, 200917 yr Ironically there is an add for Oreck vacuum cleaners in this very thread. At least there was. Edited June 17, 200917 yr by Irish Cat Add disappeared.
June 17, 200917 yr One to definately stay away from is the "Electrolux" sold in local hardware stores. I owned an Electrolux years ago and jumped at the chance to buy another for $800.00. Turns out the Eureka bought the Electrolux name. It was the worst vacuum I ever owned. I was always curious about the Oreck brand. Good to know people like it.

The Sears Canisters he is talking about are designed in Danville, right here where Tater works. The upright in the ad from consumer search is also from Danville.

The upright in the ad from consumer search is also from Danville. Cool. I didn't know they were designed here. Now I feel even better about the product. In fact, I think I'll vacuum the house when I get home. Oh wait, why start now?
June 17, 200917 yr Not a vacuum expert by no means. BUT, the otherday I did catch an add on tv that showed a vacuum cleaner that was better than the oreck, and at around the same price. I know commercials are meant to look good and make you think the product is the best, but the things they showed that thing doing made it appear to be the real deal. It had like a one word name, kind of like a first name of guy. I will look for what I saw and post it. If I were in the vacuum market I would probably invest in it.
June 17, 200917 yr I bought a Dyson All Floors vacuum a few months back, and I love it. It cost around $499, but well worth it IMO.
June 17, 200917 yr You would never guess how hard it was for me to find this thing. Lucky for this thread I am the type of person who cannot let something stay on my mind without knowing what it is. Again, no vacuum expert, have never even bought my own cleaner yet. However, like I said this thing looked like it was for real. They showed it against an Oreck and Dyson I believe in the commercial. http://www.garryvacuum.com/

Such things are only good as long as Gary is in business.
June 17, 200917 yr Free bags for life , and zero maintainence warranty makes me a bit suspicious from a brand I never heard of. Such things are only good as long as Gary is in business. true, but like I said I'm no expert. The infomercial was good though. They showed the Garry against the Oreck XL (i think), and I'm wanting to say a Dyson, and the Garry was far superior. They showed it on various types of hardwood and carpeted surfaces and it never missed a beat. Some situations the Oreck would have to take like three-four runs over debris before it picked it up, the Garry was just a one swipe wonder with no back ad forth action required. It was supposed to also be just as light as the lightest Oreck I believe. I think that can be suspicious too about the free bags and free warranty, but after seeing the end of that info mercial I think it is just because they stand behind their product that much.
June 17, 200917 yr Author Keep the information coming, including the "worst" ones. Both the Oreck (price) and the Sears Canister (produced in KY) seem interesting right now. I've never owned a canister vac. Can we get some discussion on them? What do you like/dislike about a canister vs. uprights?
June 17, 200917 yr I don't care for a canister vacuum. I hate pushing the hose. An upright is better IMO. I will have to say I have a very expensive Kirby vacuum that needs to be serviced. I think it may need a new belt, but I can't make heads or tails from the pamphlet. I've heard Dyson is a good product and wish I would have went with that.
