American capitalism gone with a whimper

Featured Replies

The article linked is poorly argued at best. I think there is an argument to be made about the government control of AIG, Freddie Mac, Fannie Mae and GM and the troubling repercussions that may come of them. But, if you want to argue Marx's vision for the world has been nearly completed....well, you better do a better job than that. America the next Zimbabwe? :lol:

Let me make myself clear.

Just because you voted for Obama or are against war, doesn't make you "un-American." Heck I don't like the war and at one point I was going to vote for Obama......and once again I'm a registered Democrat.

In my book Afghanistan = justified, Iraq = not so much.

But it you believe that some Dims are really out for "the good of the people" and they are not power hungry or you believe national health care, a tax rate of about 50%, hyper-inflation, huge entitlement programs, a broke welfare system, and government control of our industry and market is American.......................if the shoe fits............

But the Pubs are? It's just a different flavor of Kool Aid.

I am coming closer to realigning my voter registration to Libertarian at the rate that things are going with the current state of those on the right. I registered Republican because they were more in line with my views on defense, but I was never 100% with their social agenda. I have always been in full support of the free market.
Glad to see you are coming around. :D

The moves I have seen in the last year by both administrations in regards to the economy make me sick to my stomach.

Interesting....as one who generally seems to somehow fall far enough out of line with the thinking of most in this forum, I'll take your comment personally.

Nice to get a perspective on how I'm viewed, though.

That's fatuous.

Sorry but it's a sad day when we take anything from Pravada as legit. It is fun to read some of that stuff though. And I'm on the right so that makes me a reaaaalll amurican!

The greatest example of the rift between the left and right in this country was best illustrated on an episode of Southpark a few years ago. The "left" was portrayed as "limp wristed" and wishy-washy and the "right" kept uttering the phrase "If you don't like Ameruka, yew can just git out".

Classic episode.

Correct. It is fatuous for RM to believe, based upon my prior experiences and discussions with her, that my prior post was in any way directed at, implied, or was intended for, her.

The post was a generalization, or "painted with a broad brush," as Clyde likes to say. I do believe there are millions of Americans who watch, day after day, mindlessly, as more and more discussions take place about nationalized this and taxed that, and are content with the crumbs they have in their own little lives.

RM is not mindless, and I do not believe she is one of those people.

Therefore, I believe her post was "fatuous."

Oh, I thought he said something else. I can take the fan back now. :jump:

Amazing that I only read one comment that pointed out that the article was from Pravda. No one has concern that Obama and friends are doing everything the Soviets ever hoped for?

The fact it was in Pravda did not escape me. In fact it was the first thing I noticed. The fact that this publication is decrying our fall into Marxism, is the added punch to drive the point home.

Written by Stanislav Mishin a blogger and columnist for the "Russian" newspaper, Pravda!!

Scary!

Insightful article. In all the years that I've been a business owner, these are indeed the most uncertain of times. One thing that bothers me most these days is the ignorant response of "I don't care as long as it doesn't affect me" that seems to be invoked so often as of late everywhere you turn. Sad.

Last night, I heard on the news that a senator (can't remember the name) wants to introduce a bill requiring businesses to offer at least one week paid vacation to all workers. So much for free enterprise.....................

Reminds me of this famous quote:

First they came for the communists, and I did not speak out--

because I was not a communist;

Then they came for the socialists, and I did not speak out--

because I was not a socialist;

Then they came for the trade unionists, and I did not speak out--

because I was not a trade unionist;

Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out--

because I was not a Jew;

Then they came for me--

and there was no one left to speak out for me.

Not a fan of Pelosi, ho-hum about Frank, but did vote for Obama. I guess, just as I was branded unpatriotic, unAmerican, and told I should move because I opposed the war in Iraq, I have still no right to call my self an American.

America....land of the free....as long as you agree with the "right" talking points.

Well said RockMom

I agree with Rockmom. It's good to know that some of us aren't considered "real" Americans (yet again) soley because we don't agree with others lines of thinking.

I'll have to tell my dad, a Vietnam vet, that he evidently fought for the wrong country, as he isn't a "real" American because of his political views. Heck, I probably need to call up some of my former students that are serving in Iraq and Afghanistan right now and tell them to come home, as they aren't "real" Americans, due to their political beliefs...same for the one that came back from Iraq wounded and had to learn how to walk again.

I was all too afraid that I understood what was meant by "real american" in the original post.

Ah, we are in a Red State.

Let me make myself clear.

Anyone for anarchy?:lol:

In reality no government has ever done it's job completely. Maybe the government should run industry if the people cannot do it correctly? I don't know it's just a thought.

Just a Socialist thought sir.

If people "can't do it correctly" then they will fail and those more talented will take their place. Or at least that is the way it used to be.....
