What was the downfall of Billy Clyde?

Featured Replies

Georgia game was the lid to the coffin, his remarks about just coaching b-ball was the nail.

I thnk the final straw for him was his comments at the SEC Tourney saying he was hired to be a basketball coach and all the other stuff was not in his job description. This on the heels of a talking to about handling the "other stuff".

I even said as much prior to the SEC Tourney that I didnt think he would be back if they didnt win the SEC Tourney.

Too many things began to surface.

His stubborness was a pitfall.

He lost BIG early which did not help things...then as the two years went on, his behavior became more erratic especially under the spotlight. In general he was not a very nice person. He made enemies when he needed friends and especially those that could have helped him....the media.

Off court stuff became magnified.

Losing to UGa at home was inexcusable....by that time the express was heading for derailment.

Great points!

The table began to be set in his first 60 days in Lexington. Mitch Barnhart knew he did not have the right man early in the game.

Mitch made the right decision to fire Billy Clyde and he made it as soon as he could which was at about the two year mark. Trust me, if he could have possibly pulled the plug earlier, I think he would have.

Disasters (yes, plural) were going to strike.........it was just a matter of time!

Just glad he is gone and at this point the reasoning is a moot issue!

One thing I won't miss is how stubborn he was.

1. It seemed like after having ten shots blocked against MSU he would say "We are just going to go right at him".

2. He refused to change defenses

3. He kept having the team force the ball inside, even if it wasn't there

4. He ws too stubborn to call time out or change strategies out in some losses to weak teams such as Gardner Webb.

5. He kept starting Marc Curry

6. He never established a rotation, guys had no idea when they would play

I think they should make a Billy G doll that when you pull the string says about 3 different sayings:

1. We got whipped,

2. Play hard, play smart, play together

3. We are going to go right at him (nevermind pulling up for a jump shot agaisnt a guy that blocked 10 shots the last time)

I would probably switch 4 and 5. :D

I have heard of many stories of him being horrible to his players, I heard he made Darius Miller walk behind the bus because he was being a baby because he had a mild concussion so Billy said he was a wimp and made him walk behind the bus, then I heard he shoved pop tarts down Stevenson's throat because he was too skinny. I do not know if they are true, but interresting none the less.

So if he would have changed 1-2-3-&5 number 4 wouldn't matter?

He couldn't coach, he couldn't win, he couldn't recruit, should I keep on going?

Oh yeaaaaah, he missed the NCAA tournament, and he didn't win the 30+ games UK fans expect year in and year out.

BG is a good coach,he proved that at AM and TexasEP,but UK was just too big for him.
