I think it was because Eli didn't come on strong till the Super Bowl year. If he is not in the top 5, he is knocking on the door.

 

He might not have always been consistently good throughout the entire game, but for his entire career he's been very good at leading the Giants in the 4th quarter.

 

Some 4th quarter comebacks I can remember in particular are the one vs. Denver, where Toomer caught the a last second pass for a TD to win it.

 

And also there's the 24-7 4th quarter comeback Eli led over McNabb and the Eagles a few years ago. He's led many more and is more clutch than McNabb ever has been IMO.

 

I like the list given and think it is pretty much spot on. Hard not to put Brady on top of the list, he is one of the best QBs to ever play IMHO. I may not like him or the Patriots, but he is a winner.

 

I remember telling my brother in law (a gianormus Steelers fan) when they drafted Ben that they picked up a steal. He doesn't watch much college football, and didn't know much about him. Let's just say that there is no way he trade Ben for anyone else in the league right now, especially given that he is still only 27 years old and has 2 super bowl rings already. He should have a super bowl MVP from this last year IMHO, but it may work in his advantage that he didn't get it.

Can't see how McNabb comes in at fifth most clutch. I mean he's won some games, he's led some comebacks, but he's never got a ring. Oh, and he has had more tries at getting one than anyone on the list. Don't see how that can be considered clutch, especially in a pretty successful run first, screen second, run/dump off type offense.

 

 

Brees is very good, but hasn't proven to be "clutch" I guess you can say.

 

Romo is very un clutch, but has had good numbers and decent winning percentage.

 

Eli has a ring, but I don't think I could ever call him a clutch qb, I mean even I could have hit Plax for that TD after New England's D' had a total breakdown.

 

So like alluded to there is a major drop off from four on in what you could consider clutch qb's in this league. One that I would like to throw out there though is Phillip Rivers. Now its not a hot pick by any means but I think he has earned quite a bit of clutchness in the Charger's recent post season success' without LT, and without the help of any dominant WR's and with tremendous lack of depth at the same position.

I thought about Rivers. He is coming into his own I think. I don't like him but he is good.

 

I can understand the argument with Ben and Brees maybe not being clutch. I think you have to be put into a situation to be clutch in order to earn that label. My thing is this:

If you put Ben on the Saints offense with the Saints defense do you really think he would be a better QB than Brees on the Steelers offense with the Steelers defense? If you are going to bring up history how well do you think Brees could have thrown the ball with the Bus sitting behind him? It's a no brainer for me!

I don't understand why it's so difficult for people to look at McNabb the same way they looked at John Elway during the first decade of his career. McNabb had nothing to throw to, and nobody to run the ball until Westbrook emerged in the last 3-4 years (and he's always hurt). Those Philly teams that made it to the NFC Championship game had no business doing so (other than the TO year). He doesn't have a ring because Philly has never had the talent to win a ring. They've gotten the most they could with the talent they've had, and that's largely because of McNabb's clutch play.

I always wished Philly would get what they ask for. I'd love to see McNabb and Reid go somewhere else. They are spoiled brats in Philly IMO. McNabb deserves MUCH better than the way he gets treated there. He's a great QB when healthy. I like Reid too. They are very consistant.

I don't care how quick your release is behind the Steeler line. You are going to take lots of hits. Roethlisberger may be a rockhead, but he's tough and can take a hit. Lots of them. And is elusive enough to shrug many of them off. That's not something any of the three you mention can do; they're just not that mobile.
