April 28, 200917 yr I'm glad to know that if I have my own business, a bushiness that is not a public company, or a government business, that I am going to possibly get all sorts of garbage from people saying who I can or cannot hire! I am guessing some were sitting in on the interviews? Knew of other applicants who were better? If not then why question his hire? As has been said, it's a PRIVATE company. If I have a business it's no one else's business on who I do and don't hire. It just sounds like bashing! As far as Farmer, are you serious? It's not like he was just given the job, he was voted in, no mass voting fraud or anything, he was voted in! I think that is how we do things in this country. Not everyone goes to a top post with "paying their dues", sometimes they get up there quick. It's not like Farmer just jumped into that field either, or that he has no experience, he did earned a Bachelor of Science from UK with a double major in agricultural economics and agribusiness management. If the people in agriculture in this state are not upset then why should I? From what I hear from those it effects he is doing a good job! Now back to Prickett
April 28, 200917 yr Re: Richie Farmer: Born in Clay County on Aug. 25, 1969, he is the second of Virginia and Richard Farmer's three children. Before taking office, Commissioner Farmer worked as an investment advisor in Clay County. He lives in Frankfort with his wife Rebecca and their three sons, Trey, Thomas and Tate. A 1992 graduate of the University of Kentucky College of Agriculture, Commissioner Farmer earned a Bachelor of Science degree with a double major in Agricultural Economics and Agribusiness Management. He was also a standout player for the UK basketball Wildcats under Coach Rick Pitino. Re: Jared Prickett As I stated before there was an article in Bridges Magazine (an Ashland area publication) last year about Jared and his family. They, at the time, lived in the Ashland/Russell suburb of Bellefonte and Prickett was doing Real Estate development in Ashland and owned rental property Lexington. Prickett seems to be a successful business man and a successful basketball player that makes him sound more than qualified for the position.
April 28, 200917 yr I'm a high school basketaball stud good enough to go to one of the elite programs. I go to UK and help them make millions of dollars by selling my jersey replicas and posters and winning games while they pay me nothing other than my scholarship. I graduate and to show their gratitude someone gives me a very nice job. How dare them.
April 28, 200917 yr Above gratitude might be the fact that a high profile UK guy can bring attention and business $$$ to the company that other applicants cannot. Playing at UK might make some of these guys the best candidates for the job.
April 28, 200917 yr Prickett was a high school all american, a national champion, played several seasons professionally overseas, became a real estate agent/developer and then committed to a lease with an option to buy the KBA. He isn't qualified at all with all that basketball and business experience not to mention his outgoing personality. Definitely a recipe for disaster. They only gave it to him because he played at UK. No qualifications to run a basketball facility at all. I just don't see how people make so many negative comments without having any facts. Mr. Farmer seems to be doing a great job as Ag commissioner. He was more qualified than Oboma was to be president. It's just the way the world works. Sorry you weren't famous, didn't play for UK, and didn't get that promotion or job you wanted and lost out to someone with enfluence.

No one offered them until the last handful of posts. Why was it so hard to get those facts until now? Is it because people were too busy being upset that I would dare suggest anything negative about an ex-UK player? We know the answer to that one ... And I will disagree that Farmer was more qualified for the Ag Commissioner job than Obama. But not by much. At least Obama had a few years of government experience. He certainly didn't get elected on name recognition only, like Farmer, but his resume is still lacking.

The example you used with Prickett trying to make a point is simply a very poor one.
April 29, 200917 yr Sorry, you are probably correct about Farmer not being as qualified but he has done a pretty good job to this point and he will be elected to higher offices before his political career is over and alot of that will be due to name recognition. I understand your point. Bunning has benefitted from the same name recognition advantage.
April 29, 200917 yr Its just not good to suggest anything negative about anyone if you are wrong about it. The example you used with Prickett trying to make a point is simply a very poor one. Whatever. Nobody proved me wrong until about 60 posts into this thread, and I was begging for someone to do so from the beginning. I'm glad someone finally bothered to answer my queries, instead of just getting mad because I was "bashing UK guys." Bottom line is you and most of the rest of this board recoil in horror at the idea someone could dare be critical of one of your heroes. Get over it. They aren't the gods you fancy them to be. Most of them are just opportunistic, and I really can't blame them for it if someone's stupid enough to give them a job they aren't qualified for.
April 29, 200917 yr 5 years of college (remember he redshirted) works for me. Actually, Jim, this was the 5th post in the thread. The 1st few were comments from people who had personal encounters with Jared; however, you were quick to dismiss those, too. I find it hard to believe that the manager of the KBA requires much more than a college degree. It's probably a bonus that his degree is business related. It's another bonus when you consider he has college basketball experience. It's an even bigger bonus that he has college basketball experience in the area in which he's working. How is that so hard to understand? You can add that he played basketball and will run a basketball academy. This seems to be another qualification; however, it was (once again) immediately dismissed. Prickett has worked, successfully, in real estate development in the Ashland area for awhile. Bridges Magazine did a story on him a year or so ago. I did not know he had moved back to Lexington though. But he was successful in business and you know...he also played basketball at the Division 1 level and was very good at it. I'd say he was more than qualified for the position. This was around the 15th (maybe 16th?) post of the thread. Really, you want to argue this point? Being well connected or riding your name to a job seems to be the most important factor in hiring for 99% of jobs in the world, not just jobs in the Bluegrass. Someone getting hired for a job that is not qualified... I am sure no person has ever heard of that outside of KY. Once again, a post very early on that gives justification for Prickett being hired. But, Jared's "connections" did not seem to satisfy you. So we continued... The position of Ag Commisioner involves a great deal of public relations and product promotions. While it's obvious Richie was elected because of name recognition, that same noteriety along with the Ag degree make him uniquely suited to the position. A lot of former players are sales reps. It opens doors. Once again, another qualification. As I'm sure you're aware, one of the best attributes of a business manager / owner is being able to bring publicity to their business. Marketing & Public Relations, as insignificant as they may seem, play a large role in business. There's no doubt that Jared will do a good job of bringing some notoriety to the KBA. But, once again, you've seemed to overlook this. Prickett was a high school all american, a national champion, played several seasons professionally overseas, became a real estate agent/developer and then committed to a lease with an option to buy the KBA. He isn't qualified at all with all that basketball and business experience not to mention his outgoing personality. Definitely a recipe for disaster. They only gave it to him because he played at UK. Sorry you weren't famous, didn't play for UK, and didn't get that promotion or job you wanted and lost out to someone with enfluence. A great post & it is the most informative one yet. I asked for facts. No one offered them until the last handful of posts. Why was it so hard to get those facts until now? Is it because people were too busy being upset that I would dare suggest anything negative about an ex-UK player? We know the answer to that one ... It was so hard to "get those facts" because all of the facts (and opinions) being provided to you were not up to your standards. Whatever. Nobody proved me wrong until about 60 posts into this thread, and I was begging for someone to do so from the beginning. I'm glad someone finally bothered to answer my queries, instead of just getting mad because I was "bashing UK guys." You were informed of Mr. Prickett's qualifications from the start. Instead, you chose to ignore & dismiss those posts in order to continue to grind your axe. I'd tend to agree with you that there are far too many people who immediately defend players for the wrong reasons. On the other hand, there are some who instantly criticize the same players due to their affiliations.

April 29, 200917 yr I was informed from the start that he had five years of college. That's not a resounding endorsement to me. A business degree qualifies you to be the manager of the KBA. At the very least, it qualifies you to be considered for an interview. Feel free to take your holier than thou act to another state (such as California) & gripe about how they elected The Governator.

Well, other than the fact that people were giving out his qualifications from the very beginning, which you not surprisingly chose to ignore, (why let facts get in the way of a chance to do your favorite activity, complain?) if you wanted to know, why didn't you invest the time to find out?
April 29, 200917 yr I was informed from the start that he had five years of college. That's not a resounding endorsement to me. Actually, with a simple business degree most can get an interview for a management level position right out of college. 3 of my friends have actually recently been hired in those positions. Whether you like it or not, a college degree is a very valuable qualification especially in the business world.
