A business degree qualifies you to be the manager of the KBA.

Actually, with a simple business degree most can get an interview for a management level position right out of college. 3 of my friends have actually recently been hired in those positions. Whether you like it or not, a college degree is a very valuable qualification especially in the business world.

Whatever. Nobody proved me wrong until about 60 posts into this thread, and I was begging for someone to do so from the beginning. I'm glad someone finally bothered to answer my queries, instead of just getting mad because I was "bashing UK guys."

 

Bottom line is you and most of the rest of this board recoil in horror at the idea someone could dare be critical of one of your heroes. Get over it. They aren't the gods you fancy them to be. Most of them are just opportunistic, and I really can't blame them for it if someone's stupid enough to give them a job they aren't qualified for.

In all honesty I have been around some great UK players that had great careers at UK and those guys were complete jerks who I don't care for. I have been around others who were great and also seemed like great people.

"Disappointed" is more appropriate, that we'd be willing to hand people jobs they don't deserve because of what they did in a previous life.

It's clear that whatever other questions I have, all I will get is emotional, illogical responses.

The argument that the people voted for him isn't an effective one. It just shows how deep this problem runs throughout the state, as a majority of the public were willing to hand him the job based on the sole qualification of "former UK basketball player". And not a knock on the KBA or Prickett but how difficult is it to run the KBA? They have basektball tournaments, camps, and leagues. It certainly wouldn't take anyone with a business degree to do that. :confused:

Speaking for me personally, I am open to suggestions & love hearing other's input. It's part of the reason I'm on the board. I'm not naive enough to think that my opinion is the only opinion out there (although I think it's the right one :lol:). I'd like to think that I have given decently well-thought out responses...or at least responses that were not in the heat of the moment; however, the majority of my posts have not been responded to.

 

As I've stated, I'd tend to agree with you that people tend to give knee-jerk reactions, particularly when somebody criticizes a member of their team. That's not exclusive to Kentucky fans. It's not exclusive to Louisville fans, either.

 

I tend to think that Kentucky legends (and that is what Richie Farmer is) benefit the commonwealth more than they harm it. Farmer became a legend after his performance in the Sweet 16. He only strengthened that after his play as a Wildcat. Right or wrong, Farmer provides a lot of publicity in a position that can benefit from that type of thing. It doesn't hurt that he seems to have an agricultural background / degree. I have no idea as to whether or not he is qualified; however, I do not know of any other alternatives, either.

 

With regards to Jared Prickett, it seems that he's more than qualified for his position as manager of the KBA. He has a business degree, which is probably the only true qualification. He is a former basketball player, which is a bonus since he's familiar with the game & the subject matter that he'll managing. He played at Kentucky, which is also a bonus, since it gives him experience in dealing with the public with which he'll be working. In this scenario, it makes no difference to me if he played at NKU, WKU, EKU, UK, Louisville or Morehead. The fact that he played college basketball is a bonus. Obviously, it doesn't hurt that he played for UK, which is one of the two most respected programs in the state & has a huge fan base in the area. Additionally, the KBA is based in Central KY, where he has spent a lot of time during his college career & post-college. Once again, these may not be "qualifications" per se, but they are indeed attributes that should be considered while hiring the manager of a basketball academy in Central KY. Would you disagree?

 

With that said, you tend to display the same type of antagonstic behavior in a large majority of Kentucky related threads. For starters, I'd refer you to RockPride's thread concerning Denny Crum's salary, where you defended the salary on the basis that Joe B. Hall was receiving similar benefits from the University of Kentucky. Which is completely fabricated. If that is insufficient, I'd refer you to the Bengals' draft thread where you criticized the Bengals for drafting a punter, when your own beloved Steelers did the same two years ago.

 

When you give an anatagonistic response (some of which may be over-the-top), you'll get the same type of over-the-top response, particularly on a message board where people tend to think they're not held as accountable for their actions & thoughts as they would be in "real" life. That is not groundbreaking news.

 

Your lack of response to those the responses in those threads, as well as your lack of response to my comments in this one, speak volumes to me regarding your intent. If you want to make fans of a particular team upset or uninformed, then by all means have it. That's your right & it is what it is. Just don't try to make it something that it's not. :thumb:

Lets look at the facts here. We have established that Prickett is qualified for the job he has. We have also established that you can argue that Farmer may not have been as qualified as some, but thats up in the air. Now, since you are so upset about former UK players being given jobs that you say they are not qualified, give us some examples and we might agree with you. To me this is like someone in the newspaper doing a story the New Orleans Saints are a very dirty football team (hypothetically speaking) and not giving any examples to back up your claim.

When I'm getting ganged up on, it's kind of difficult to answer each individual post.

 

I asked specifically what Prickett did before this appointment, and got nothing but vague answers until about 60 posts in.

 

I'm surprised Joe B. Hall isn't still on the payroll. That was a shock.
