Um, because I've lived here all my life and want to see better done by the people. For good or ill, it's still my state, and the people deserve better than they currently get.

I think Prickett is the ownership change. He spoke of doing alot of things differently next year. How can some of you people be so critical, you must have terrible lives. Is the glass half empty?

Let me ask you this: Does getting a journalism degree in college immediately qualify someone to be the editor at a major metro paper? Does getting a law degree make someone qualified to be a partner at a law firm? Does a business degree qualify someone to be a CEO at a Fortune 500 company?

 

Can we at least admit the only reason he was elected is because he was a former player at UK, not because of any real experience?

I don't know if he had any real experience in the field or not. Maybe he was an Ag. major in college. I don't know. But yes he did get the job more than anything because he played for UK. I just think its wrong to criticise the state and UK and basketball for what they do and turn a blind eye to this going on everywhere else in America. I have gotten a job before that, while I was qualified it helped me that I knew someone who gave me a big boost in getting hired. I have also lost out on jobs before where I didn't have the connections and someone less qualified got the job. I promise it had nothing to do with me being a Ky basketball fan. Thats just life.

The position of Ag Commisioner involves a great deal of public relations and product promotions. While it's obvious Richie was elected because of name recognition, that same noteriety along with the Ag degree make him uniquely suited to the position.

 

A lot of former players are sales reps. It opens doors.

Richie used his time at UK to show his character and leadership as well as his love for Kentucky (the state and the school), maybe he saw an opportunity to do great things and make "his" state a better place to live, funny how you criticize him for that, but can't criticize the job he's done.

In Richie's case that would be the voters. Obviously enough people think he's qualified so they voted for him. How many consecutive terms has he been in office?

In the KBA's case I'd say the #1 priority is to get people in the place. Pricket's background as a UK player will garner some attention to the KBA that few others could - even if they have PHD's in exercise science and business.

You're comparing apples to oranges here. Unless the job you got was as president of the company. Nothing wrong with working your way up. I have problems when people get in on the top rung of the ladder strictly because of who they know or name recognition.
