wildcatfan
Those members who played for the Queen City Prophets only played at the AAU Nationals last year thats it. What do you mean they haven't done anything for them? Every tournament they go to they get recognition because team does very well. You don't have to have ADIDAS or JORDAN as sponsors to have a good team. The Shining Star Mcfarland team wasn't really a threat to the KY Players until they got some new adidtions this year. Derek Smith and Shining Star Sports do asssemble good talent from all around the state. Ky Players are all mostly from Covington. Shining Stars McFarland defeated the KY Players last year, with kids mostly from NKY.
Hotrod327
If you want to update the list, I watched the Derek Smith Allstars for 16's and 17's and they both played well Cincinnati this past weekend at Xavier and University of Cincinnati gyms. 16's finished first in Silver division in Bearcat classic and 17's were runner-ups in Gold Division. Fantastic tournament. Also, Warren Central has 3 players on the 16's, Jordan Shankllin, Spence Shelton, and George Fant. All played well. Caleb Hardy looked real good for 17's, from Western Kentucky. CATBIRD
I saw a team with six of Highlands High School senior to be playing on a team called the Kentucky Firebirds - George Grote, Tyler Grubbs, Stephen Gordon, Zach Lother, Corey Dill, Garrett Smith-Keller. They also have Casey McDaniel and Cody Collins from Newport High School. McDaniel scored 35 points in a game Sunday during the Eddie Ford tournament. They also hung tough with only six players playing against the Indy Elite a team that eventually beat the Shining Stars in the finals. That makes all 8 of the top returning players at Highlands playing AAU on one team or another Stephen Kowolonek - Shining Stars (McFarland) and Ben Watson -Shining Stars (Bundy) Zach Stewart (Highlands HS) a 6-7 junior to be was also playing for a team at the Eddie Ford Grassroots tournament And for the KY Players if you're wondering why the big three are still playing with them its called "loyalty" apparently a forgotten concept these days. Kudos to the Holmes kids not forgetting were they came from.

He was playing for the NKY Bulldogs at the Grassroots Shootout. I saw him play in a couple of games. He played well. I agree with the "loyalty" concept. And, those Holmes kids are great basketball players and the KY Players are a good team. They should make some noise with a few other U17 teams this season. The Fireman
Shining Stars McFarland defeated the KY Players last year, with kids mostly from NKY. They did beat them last year? I was unaware of that, I know they have dominated them in the past. Log Mountain Boy
What is the main purpose of AAU right now? I've always understood its a way to get seen by coaches. But coaches can't watch players right now at these events if I am not mistaken.
Perfect Practice
A big national qualifier at SportsPlus in Cincy next weekend. Yeah, I have heard of this tournament. This should be a really good one! I am also hearing about the Royals AAU Super-regional this coming weekend. This should be good as well. I saw on the Shining Stars website that they will be in this tournament. Obviously the Cincinnati Royals. I'm assuming you'll see many of the teams that were at the Grassroots shootout or Bearcat classic at this tournament too. Not sure though. Anyone know of other teams in this tournament (Royals AAU Superregional)?

But coaches can't watch players right now at these events if I am not mistaken. Sure, AAU is a good ways for young athletes to get noticed by coaches. At tournaments such as Eddie Fords Grassroots Shootout and The Real Deal on the Rock in Arkansas, along with many others I'm sure, many of these games are video taped and coaches have the opportunity to see them. Also, local newswriting and journalists come out to give the boys and girls exposure. But, it's not all about geting recognized, it's also about staying active during your Highschools downtime. Stay active and stay busy. And hey, why not play a game that you love. There are many reasons to play AAU ball, not just to get noticed.
