Vanhoose is the coach of the 17's. I don't know how long he has been doing this but you can always count on him having a very good team. He does a great job with the 17u teams.

I am not sure how long Coach Davis has been involved in AAU. He is an assistant coach at Simon Kenton High School.

The coaching staffs for the Derek Smith All Stars and Shining Star Sports do a great job with their teams. You wouldn't believe the number of hours that go into coaching elite AAU teams that travel a great deal.

Really? I heard that the team that won the 15U state last year only practiced 4 times before the state tournament and then 3-4 more before Nationals. Those must be some good ball players...

I am not sure about other schools, but GRC has a lot of their players on traveling teams this spring and summer. Zollo with I.E.; Stenzel and Purvis on DSAS; Brewer, Rogers and Daniel on Team Kentucky.

Team Kentucky has also added Mitchell McLeish from Ryle.

I believe that the kid played with DS most of last summer.

He needs the playing time regardless who he's playing for. Sports guy said it clearly. He played for DSAS last year so that makes more sense to me.:thumb:

He does need to be playing with someone, true. He played with DSAS 16U last year but with the Ice 15U and won a state AAU title with them and played at AAU Nationals with them. It's not a major thing but the Ice lost a great person and player in Purvis.

I have not read much on this thread, but I think that kids playing AAU for "BIG TEAMS" is a great idea. It allows for most kids to get out of the state to play and get college coaches to see them more. I know some teams are loaded and some teams aren't, but I will agree with others how do KY boys get on Teams from three and four states away? Again I have not read much on this post.

They can't be on those teams during the NCAA LIVE period in July. They have to live in the state that the team is based, or a state that boarders the teams home state.

Anyone catch any good tournaments this weekend?

I know that Ind. Elite was playing in Ft. Wayne this weekend. I haven't heard how they are doing.

Congrats to Vinny Zollo and his Indy Elite team for winning the 16u division today. Tons of talent at the event this weekend, and this is a very nice win for them...

The Shining Star Sports-Pittman (16u) team won the 16u/17u Gold Bracket at the Dayton Metro Classic this weekend.
