Bracken coaching changes again!

Featured Replies

With all do respect. An announcement has been coming soon for awhile. The first annoucement coming soon was on April 23rd.

If it is Coach Persinger, they are probably waiting until after softball season. If he puts forth the effort that he does into softball year round(and I would absolutely make sure he does), then this may be a really good hire. Hopefully gym time in the winter months and during the entire basketball season will be strictly devoted to all the basketball programs if this is the hire. Now comes the domino effect, who takes over the softball program and 8th grade girls and boys basketball? Hopefully it won't be another TJ Lykins situation where it seemed like he coached or was an assistant coach in all of the sports at one time at BC.:D

Two things you guys can mark down right now as a CERTAINTY:

Chad Persinger will be the NEW Head Boys Basketball Coach @ Bracken County HS! It will be announced very soon!

Jason Henson was NEVER gonna get the position! I am not saying anything negative about Coach Henson, but, it simply was just never gonna happen!

Are we scared to face the facts in this situation,Mr Hinson would and prob should be the next head coach,But are we not hiring him because he will not be a puppet on a string. Until we have someone like Coach Hinson. This school will never go forward.. This is and probwill be the only chance to get him. I like Persinger, But I Know the kids WILL NOT listen or may not even play under him..Mark it down, Alot different in softball then basketball. As a former college player my self, If you dont have a coach that you can respond and react to, them you are taken the wrong direction... Why you so hard on coach Hinson

Would hope that the interview process is being used and no one is being a temporary hire until there are retirements, etc. in the system

It is really shocking when you consider all the coaches that ALL of the athletic programs at BC have went through, not just recently, but in the past. Can anyone name the baseball coaches over the last few years? The football program has not even existed very long and is looking for I believe it's 5th coach(if you count interim's). Everyone knows about the coaching carousel for Boys Basketball, even as far back as after Coach Hamilton left. How many years has Coach Persinger coached softball? Who was the Coach before him? Did they have success? It would be interesting to have all of the programs coaches posted over the last 10-15 years. Maybe Bearfacts can come through for us on this topic.

I believe you have found the lucky egg AI. Things are in such a mess at BC it is terrible, all because of a couple of people running the show for their gain and not the school systems.:puke::puke:

Boys basketball has had a number of coaches in the last 10-15 years. Gary McKinney, Rodney Persinger, Dan Fisher, Gary McKinney again, Robert Hammonds, Jay Fite, Deron Breeze...Fisher had the most success of this group IMO (All "A" championship & last district title).

Baseball I'm not so sure. Pete Hause, Chad Persinger, Ron Moser (I think), T.J. Lykins, Chris Yelton currently. I know I've got to be missing some here. But I can tell you that Chad Persinger was the last BC baseball coach to win a 10th region tournament game...but Pete Hause is by far the most accomplished baseball coach BC has had, not just in the last 10-15 years, but most likely ever.

As for softball, I believe Persinger is the only fast-pitch coach they've had, and he's done extremely well building that program.

But I won't even touch the football program.

Why would Persinger have to give up girls softball if the boys basketball job became his? Other coaches--in the 10th region, mind you--have done both of those jobs at the same time (see: Rison, Bart).

IF Persinger would happen to get this position he SHOULD have to give up softball. In order for the boys program to be successful the new coach needs to devote most, if not all his spare time to the program. Let's not forget he is also a teacher. NO WAY can he give 100% in the classroom, 100% to the boys basketball team and 100% to softball. NOT gonna happen!!! Are we forgetting that coaching basketball is a year around job now?? How is Persinger supposed to work with these boys this summer and take them to camps when he is out doing the same with the softball team? How is he supposed to work with these boys in the spring during open gym when he is out coaching softball? Bracken needs someone who is committed to basketball and basketball only. That's the only way to build this program back up. If the administration is not smart enough to see that then the boys will once again suffer due to the lack of intelligence higher up. Come on Bracken, let's try to get it right this time. Don't go into the interview process already knowing who you want to hire. For once really listen to what these applicants have to say. Ask why they think they deserve the job? How are they gonna help these boys become better players? Don't just hire someone because he lives in the county and you think he deserves a shot. Hire someone who is ACTUALLY qualified this year!!!!

I see your point, and you may well be right. I'm just saying that one man has held both positions in other schools. In the case of Rison, he was able to coach both programs with great success. Whether Persinger can/will do that remains to be seen, but it's not impossible. Difficult? Yes. Impossible? No. The powers-that-be will have to determine whether or not they want that kind of scenario to become a reality.

I have no idea why the announcement has not been made, this is a done deal, Persinger will be offered the position. I can only assume that he will say YES! I know as of right this minute, Chad Persinger is the choice at Bracken County for Boys Head Basketball Coach!

Bracken County has many issues in their athletic department. They should be a great deal more competitive in all their sports then they are. They have great facilities and passionate fans, a bit over-zealous at times, but passionate, and they have enough kids in their school to compete at the Class A level for certain.

It comes back to the coaching, when a coach is hired, everyone is not gonna be happy about who was brought in. The same thing is gonna happen to Chad Persinger once he accepts the position. Those so called supporters are gonna be the ones after Coach Persinger because of this or that, it will happen, trust me on that. How he handles it and deals with it will be the huge key. Time willalso be a big part of this situation, will he be given enough time to implement his system and run with it. OR, will the BC administration fold to the pressure and get rid of him also?

As for Jason Henson, not for sure he would have been as great a hire at BC as some on here think. He is a pretty good coach and has more experience then Persinger, but for me he still would not have been my choice. I would have opened up the search and been exhaustive with it. I would look for a coach and asked that coach to move to the community, to make an investment in the school and community, I would require my Head Coach to instill an elementary program!

Unless the school is ready to throw in a moving package that includes buying the coach's current home, it's a tough market to require someone to move.

Perhaps require is a tough point to try and make or ask. I do not think a moving package would be needed, sometimes coaches do move. I would think it would benefit the coach to live in the community at least in this case because it seems that is one of the biggest gripes I hear from their fans: they want someone who will stay around!

I think that is one of the biggest factors for Coach Persinger getting the position. He is a graduate of BC, a teacher and coach in the system for a number of years, I am thinking in the teens, he lives in the county, he has family roots in the county.

That is NO reason to hire him! You hire someone for their ability not because they live in the county.
