I have been out of the loop lately, but is Michael Robinson supposed to play this season at all?

The jury is still out. Michael will definitely be rehabbing for the next several months. It is within the realm of possibility that he recovers to the extent necessary to get back on the field for the last couple of games and the playoffs.

In past years CovCath has played Ryle in a scrimmage but since they play Ryle this year, well you don't want to scrimmage a team you are playing in the regular season.

 

They also played Campbell County in a scrimmage last year but again like Ryle, they are playing the Camels in a regular season game, so mark them off the scrimmage list!

 

BTW it's nice that CovCath is playing five home games this year! I believe this is the first time in a couple of years that the Colonels are playing so many regular season games at Wooten Stadium.

It sure is nice...that was the first thing I thought when I saw their schedule this year. There isn't any better way to spend a Saturday afternoon in the fall.

Friday night under the lights is the only way to enjoy a High School Football Game!

While I enjoy Cov. Cath's Friday night road games under the lights, I agree with Colonels Wear Blue that Wooten Stadium is a fine way to spend a Saturday afternoon in the fall... (Papa's John Stadium in the early winter - daylight or under the lights - is another pretty nice place to watch your favorite high school team play.) :dancingpa

Especially that first home game this year. I mean, new coach's first home game, coach Ray returns to the home sideline as a coach, and at half time my understanding is that the STATE CHAMP track and tennis Cov Cath Colonels will receive their state rings!

I disagree, I do like the Friday night games , without a doubt, but there's something different and great about the Saturday afternoon games. Also, I've talked to several players from other schools, namely Beechwood, Scott and Highlands, who all said they like the differences that come along with playing Cov Cath at Wooten. The change up in the weekly schedule and the Friday afternoon walk-throughs all mean one thing - your playing the Colonels this Saturday.

 

Besides, college and pro teams switch it up between days of the week, day, and night. I've never heard anybody whine and moan about watching Monday Night Football.

CCH can only have one scrimmage this year due to playing in Week 0. By rule, if I understand it correctly, you cannot have two scrimmages if you are playing in Week 0.

Any word on the guys coming up from last year's freshman squad? They seemed to have a pretty decent season last year (6-3). Are we looking at any size/speed/talent developing from them?

I had heard there are close to 50 boys on the freshman team, and close to 80 on the 7th/8th grade teams. These numbers alone should bode well for the future of the program.

 

There could be a few from last years freshman squad getting some playing time on Varsity. Most of them are a year or two away from being impact players, but several could be by time they are Seniors.

In most cases the more sophomores you have getting playing time on varsity, the more it is an indictment of a lack of talent in your junior and senior classes. I am not saying there aren't some sophomores that are good enough to play varsity, but you sure don't want there to be very many if you are hoping to have a good season.

I completely agree with you VOR. Particularly when you have a varsity/j.v. program that is 75 and 80 players strong, you have to wonder what the deal is when coaches pass over the seniors and juniors to play a sophomore. I certainly wouldn't expect that to be the case at Cov Cath this year.

 

I'm more interested to know about the sophomores as they apply to team development. You're only as strong as your weakest link...and when your varsity is practicing day in and day out against a solid scout team (sophomores), the better you get. And when your sophomores are putting out each day against improving upperclassmen, then the benefits go both ways.

Its my understanding that there is one sophomore lineman who will compete for varsity time this year.
