UK NIT Strategy

I'm on record as saying they will get nothing out of accepting the NIT bid other than money. Many have told me they will benefit because it will give them one more chance to work on their game. I say that's a fallacy.

So for those of you who fall into the camp of "one more game will make them better for next year" tell me this.

Are you willing to have them work on getting more people involved in the offense at the expense of less shots for PP and Meeks? That's their #1 issue, right? So if they are truly trying to get better for next year shouldn't they de-emphasize PP and Meeks? Let Liggins get more minutes and shots? Let Galloway get time at the 2 and the 3? Let Harrelson work on his inside game? Put Stevenson on the bench where he belongs?

Are you willing to let them "work on things" even if it lessens their chances of beating UNLV?

Or do you play to win?

The way I see it, this season has been a complete mess for UK. They didn't deserve to be in the NCAA. The NIT has some nice teams in it and overall to me looks to be an extremely competitive tournament. I would think if UK could advance to the Semi-Finals or even Finals and win the thing it would be a great way to end a bad season and build some confidence in a broken down team for next year.

That being said, an early exit won't surprise me and that would just cap off the already forgettable season.

Don't look now, but isn't Kansas getting fairly close in victories?

What? Are you trying to turn the fanbase on their ear? I don't know if they can survive another year of looking over their shoulders at two teams.

Am I going to have to go back and look for all of the posters who said that the best thing about playing in the NIT is "more practice?"

You can't have it both ways. You either work on next year during the NIT or you play to win at the expense of development.

You get more practices and you get more game(s). Since there are no seniors who play, you work on getting better in practice so that you can play better in the game and win. If you can correct mistakes from this past season, that should make you better next year.

If they don't win, then practice is over.

Jayhawks only 18 victories behind at this point.
