I disagree. They are playing much better defensively right now than earlier in the year. If you haven't noticed, the more points Holmes scores the worse their defense is. I expect Holmes' offense to pick up a little at the state tourney. Teams aren't going to play as good of defense down there as teams in the 9th do...especially Holmes' first round opponent, Christian Co.

I agree. Key match up in this game IMO is Wilson v R. Johnson. It will be interesting to see how Christian Co handles Holmes' defensive pressure. I don't think they've played a team yet that gets after it defensively the way Holmes will.

I attended Holmes championship game vs. Boone County. Both teams locked each other up very well. Holmes will be the best defensive team at the state tournament next week. They are very long and can really bottle up gifted offensive players.

It is hard to say on this game, such a contrast of styles. Defense usually wins out.

I still haven't figured out why the knock on Holmes as not showing much this year. They were state runner up last year at 34-2. This year they are 32-2. In there last 70 games they've won 66 of them for a winning percentage of 94%. I don't care if the final was 2-0, they flat out win ballgames. I left the regional final last night and overheard someone say Holmes just isn't that impressive and they weren't as good as everyone says they are. Are these people serious?

My gut is telling me that this Bulldog team is more versatile than what we've been shown thus far or at least more recently. We've seen a few different faces in them already from slow (Boone, Ryle, NewCath etc...) to fast & dynamite (Scott Co., Lardo?? from Maryland, Bryan Station etc...). What worries me is that the tempo seems always to be determined by their opposition. I think we all know that we'd probably see more proficient shooting if they were able to get into a flow and run with a team instead of settling for a (cough cough) half court offense. No doubt it would be show time if the style of the game allows them points in transition. I'm feeling like they frequently allow themselves to be forced into playing a game that's not really their forte anyhow. Their defense is solid, thank God for that. Other teams can bring some heavy 'D' too, so there's something to be said for them as well showing that this Bulldog team is somewhat vulnerable if forced to play slow defensive struggles. They've squeaked it out and kudos to them.

 

Now if Christian Co. is a running team, then I really could see Holmes going off. The question is would Christian Co. fore go their own style of play to go with what has almost worked for some of the teams who chose to slow it down? I don't know much about them but by last night's score they probably don't play anything like 9th Region 'D' Ball.

 

I'm leaning towards thinking that Christian will run, giving the Bulldogs the open door to show what a dynamic team they really are and that they really can put some points on the board. I really don't see a tremendously high scoring game, but again if they run I can see:

I don't see them beating Holmes however. All I have heard all year is how "if holmes plays like that again" well they keep doing it and they keep winning. At the end of the day you can score 100 if the other team scores 101 you lose, or you can score 32 and if the other team only scores 29 you win. If teams want to slow the game down Holmes will slow it down, if teams wanna run, Holmes will run. They are versitle either way, the one thing that doesn't change is they can play good defense and that is what they have hung there hat on this year, not how much they can score.

I agree. But what I'd really like to see from them is them controlling the tempo of the game instead of their opponent. As a Bulldog enthusiast tezzy wouldn't you like to see them control the pace and have a better chance of putting a team away than to let some slow ball team make you bite your nails down until they bleed? I know I would. After the championship game I didn't have any nails left. Not to mention how much they were already gnawed down from the Ryle & NewCath games. :laugh:
