Corbin 71 South Laurel 35

Great Win! Congratulations to Tony and the whole team. Also congratulations to Coach Wright and Coach Conway...both of those guys showed alot of class after losing to the Hounds. As a Corbin fan, I have alot of respect for these coaches and the example that they set for their teams.

Bubba had to keep getting Sweetness to pinch me on the cheek to make sure he wasn't dreaming at this margin. Alas, it wasn't just her sweet face I was seeing, the scoreboard was right. I second the Fossil on the comments about the opposing coaches. South Laurel did a whole lot with their team this year and they improved greatly from early this year. No doubt the addition of North and South to the region has made everyone raise their level of play, which is good for all fans. A BIG CONGRATULATIONS to Coach P on his second regional championship to add to his ALL A regional winner and two regional runners-up. Pretty good resume for a young coach. Corbin may have to renegotiate his contract.

Not finished

Wow, a mild upset IMO. However, I am surprised at the margin.

I dont know about the upset part, but I agree that the margin was shocking.

WOW!!!!!! Congrats to Corbin, i'll be rooting for a Corbin/ Elliott County final now.

Me too!

Not an upset at all, that's 4 out of 5 this year. Corbin has the better team for sure this year (and probably last year). When fierce rivals get together you never know..........

Let's make sure Rupp Arena knows where Corbin is!!!!!!!!!!:dancingpa:dancingpa

Between Elliott, Hazard, Corbin and Shelby Valley....the mountains need to unite and make Rupp Roar like they did in the big Clay County years. All the mountains fans need to support which, if any of these teams advance. It would be nice to see the big Trophy come home to the Hills.

Man alive, what a game. This is truly a Corbin fan's dream! Winning the region while not only defeating South Laurel but destroying them is a sweet feeling.

First of all, hats off to the South Laurel kids and staff. They had a great season and got back to the title game when big expectations weren't put on them as in years past. Like em or not, they have always been a class bunch. Best wishes to those kids and coaches. They will be back before long.

As for the game, what can you say about those seniors? All four of them stepped up for the Hounds. Blake Hendrickson and Lee Crawford provided huge lifts off the bench and Smith and Crawford were great tonight. Isaac Wilson also played a great game after sub par games due to foul trouble in the first two rounds. Manns was an animal on the boards and pushed big St. John around all night long. Johnson may have not scored a lot but I was impressed with his d all night long. Finally congrats to Coach Pietrowski and his staff. They coached an excellent, season and especially tournament. I think Tony has thrived off of the early criticism. He may have not been ready to have so much talent when he was hired but he has proven himself. I think a new legend in the mountains is being born.

Finally, the kids should enjoy this tonight and realize they've done what not many kids get the chance to do. As for tomorrow, it's back to work. A very very good Louisville Eastern looms ahead a week from tomorrow. This bunch came out of a very tough region and are very deserving of their high ranking. Corbin will probably enter the game similarly ranked but more than likely the underdog. This bunch isn't used to being underdogs so hopefully they will use it as motivation. Tonight was great in many ways. A major goal was accomplished. However this goal was like a tick on a horses you know what compared to next week. That's when the ultimate goal can be achieved. Corbin has won 15 straight once before this year. They are currently at 11 in a row. 4 games in Rupp is all that it will take to bring it home. 15 straight again isn't out of the realm of possibility.

Nice win Corbin :thumb:

Likewise to your Dawgs. Didn't sound like it was a fun game to watch but a W is a W. Always knew you guys would be at Rupp.

Congrats to the Hounds. Look forward to seeing you at Rupp.

On another note, the officials did a nice job in this one. Thought I'd point that out since they've been the subject of so much conversation in some of the other games.

Congratulations to all the Corbin players and staff on winning the regional championship. It was a total team effort and that makes it even a little sweeter. South was determined to not let Madison Johnson beat them again and really concentrated on him defensively, other players on Corbin took advantage of the opportunities that opened up for them and made South Laurel pay for it. You have to pick your poison when defending Corbin and hope for the best, it just did not work out this time for the Cardinals.

South Laurel needs to be commended for the great season they had. Everyone keeps thinking(maybe hoping)that next season will be the season they will be down and not playing for the regional title, but get used to it because they will be in the mix every year. They run a class program and their kids(who were also class acts) are surely disappointed today, but they need to realize just how special this 5 year run that they have been a big part has been. :thumb:

That is good to hear. It seems like they were criticised during every game in this tourney. :thumb:
