Corbin 71 South Laurel 35

Featured Replies

If Corbin can win that first game, then I think they have a very good chance of winning the Sweet 16. It could be a all mountain final with Corbin against Elliot or Shelby Valley. Maybe Mountain Basketball will get some of that old respect back.

I completely agree. Corbin has a tough first game, but after that, they are the best team in their bracket.

Shelby Valley, Elliott, and Holmes will all battle it out in the bottom bracket.

Congratulations to all the Corbin players and staff on winning the regional championship. It was a total team effort and that makes it even a little sweeter. South was determined to not let Madison Johnson beat them again and really concentrated on him defensively, other players on Corbin took advantage of the opportunities that opened up for them and made South Laurel pay for it. You have to pick your poison when defending Corbin and hope for the best, it just did not work out this time for the Cardinals.

South Laurel needs to be commended for the great season they had. Everyone keeps thinking(maybe hoping)that next season will be the season they will be down and not playing for the regional title, but get used to it because they will be in the mix every year. They run a class program and their kids(who were also class acts) are surely disappointed today, but they need to realize just how special this 5 year run that they have been a big part has been. :thumb:

South Laurel won't be down next season, they'll be one of the top teams with Clay, Corbin and Knox Central. The Cardinals have LOTS OF TALENT COMING UP.

With that said, congrats Corbin.

Corbin scheduled several games this year on consecutive nights, I wonder if this helped to prepare them for the back to back games in the regional tourney. They certainly appeared to be the fresher team last night even though North Laurel gave them such a tough test the previous night.

The winner of the Corbin / Eastern game should be a favorite to make the championship game IMHO.

I don't expect that South will ever be down, especially not next year with St. John, Watkins, Gilbert, Huff, Wright & Sizemore returning. The Brashear kid who transferred to South Laurel from Corbin this year has really grown(around 6'7" or 6'8" as a freshman) and could also be a factor next year along with the 8th grader Sanders, who may not get much time next year due to so many guards returning.

I think South will be the favorite next year, especially with St. John returning.

Corbin will be good, returning three starters. Knox loses quite a bit, in my opinion, but return Miller.

I think we may be looking at another South/Corbin final next year.

Sanders is going to be one heck of a player for South. Good athlete.

Congrats to the Hounds and good luck next week in the Sweet 16. Congrats to South on a great season. I would not have guessed this game would have ended up this way though. I thought it would be a great close game

Steve Wright put it best after the game. 'Well, you shoot 29% in the regional finals, you go home.'

Sanders will be getting a whole lot more time than you think.:thumb:

The said thing is they didn't shoot 29 percent. They shot 23.7 percent. OUCH!

Clay loses no one. They'll have something to say about a Corbin/South regional final next year.

Congratulations to Corbin on overcoming last seasons Regional Championship demons and moving on to Rupp.

South Laurel had an outstanding year, as most in the preseason said they wouldn’t be a factor in the 13th Region. Zac Smith and Wes Dean are two outstanding seniors that will be sorely missed by their team next season. They represented their team and school very well in their senior year.

I also want to congratulate Corbin’s coaching staff on an excellent game plan. Their use of the half court trap seemed to really bother South Laurel and forced them to play at a speed that I don’t think they wanted to play at. Some said that this game would come down to coaching and I think this adjustment by Corbin’s staff made a difference in the outcome.

Hope Corbin plays well in the state tournament.

I'm kind of confused about where you got that most thought South wouldn't

be factor in the 13th Region during the pre-season? Heck, I believe they were rated in the top two in almost every poll I saw and maybe third or fourth in my pre-season poll.
