March 9, 200917 yr That's another interesting question - is Big Blue Nation pleased with a winning team that makes it to the Elite 8 or even Final Four, but doesn't come away with a championship? I personally can deal with upsets, but most of the BBN.....no.
March 9, 200917 yr Even with the players we have the cats should be a top 25 team...And at one time this season we were...:taz:
March 9, 200917 yr Yeah, I'm a Tubby fan too, but in hindsight, I was pretty rough on him for a few years that he was very successful. I remember being all torn up when we lost in the Elite 8 a couple of times. I was also one of the ones that said "we're just not playing Kentucky basketball..." Now, I realize that things were a little better than I was able to see then :ohbrother: :thumb: I think the main thing was that Pitino did so great while here at UK, and everyone loved his style of play. That it didn't matter what Tubby did, because he would be compared to Pitino since he was the one who followed him. So it made it hard to see that yeah we had a couple bad years under Tubby, but it really was not that horrible and he was a better coach than people realized. He put great teams together that could have won titles but just fell short. I know I never understood why people used that argument that well he didn't get us to the final four with his players. I mean us Ky fans then would be upset that we didn't win the title. That whole final four argument just didn't make sense to me. That 96-98 run of making 3 straight titles spoiled a lot of people, and made people think that is Ky basketball and that is should always happen. Even though that is not Ky basketball.

Anything short of Final Fours by Tubby was destined to be a bad season...
March 10, 200917 yr Does anyone know what UK's record was following the 66 (Rupp's Runts team). Mind you they had Riley and Dampier both returning as Seniors. The answer is 13-13 with two all-amercians as seniors. This team just hasn't gelled. I thought that the last 16 games of the season last year, we played UK basketball, hard nosed D and we executed on O. With that said, we had a lot of experience on the floor last year. I get as confused as anyone with BCG at times, but I see a lot of good sets and motion on offense. I also see him trying to implement his system. I think he deserves the benefit with this young and unexperience team.

March 10, 200917 yr I really don't think most of our players realize that UK gets everyones best shot. Just like all the top teams, which we haven't been for awhile. The fact that most SEC teams if they beat UK lay an egg their next game shows they come with added intensity when playing the big blue.
March 10, 200917 yr I agree 100%. Anything short of Final Fours by Tubby was destined to be a bad season... I think the vast majority would be fine with the Elite 8's (or even less) if there were a couple of Final Fours mixed in every 3-5 years. You just can't go a decade without one and keep everyone happy. Especially when you have a couple of #1 seeds in there that should give you a relatively easy path.

How many times did UK have a 1 or 2 seed during Tubby's 10 years? I know there was at least 3 times.

March 10, 200917 yr Author 5 times. See, that's another way that Tubby was not appreciated. I'd kill for even a 5-seed these days
March 10, 200917 yr See, that's another way that Tubby was not appreciated. I'd kill for even a 5-seed these days  Tubby's last 2 seasons were his worst, as far seeding goes. UK was an 8 both times. The other 3 seasons of Tubby UK was a 5, 4, and 3 seed.
March 10, 200917 yr Author Tubby's last 2 seasons were his worst, as far seeding goes. UK was an 8 both times. The other 3 seasons of Tubby UK was a 5, 4, and 3 seed. So, he was a 5 or better in 8 of his 10 seasons?
March 10, 200917 yr So, he was a 5 or better in 8 of his 10 seasons? Yes. Be careful what you wished for.... Right? Unfortunatley for the Tubster, most only recall the poorest seasons or storylines around the seasons. But when you are averaging a 3.4 seed over a 10 year span, one is doing something correct.
