If there was a difference it was that Pat Riley was hurt the majority of that season and played well below his previous standard. (Just as Grevey was hurt midway through the 13-13 '74 campaign) Rupp's Runts also had the problem of losing their 2 best leaders in Conley and Kron from the year before and there was no one to fill those roles.

 

So Patterson's finger and ankle injury ran parrallel to UK's slump and loss of confidence this season.

And I think we will both agree that this year's team has had poor leadership within the lines.

I only used that reference of the 67 team because 1.) It takes more than two players. 2.) It could be worse, we could be 13-13 :lol:

Now I will say his last two years at UK were unacceptable. However those other 8 years were not that bad at all, unless you compare that to Pitino. Which most people do, and that is why most of you all were always so hard on him which led to him leaving. When it really was not as bad as a lot of you all made it out to be with him here...

Possibly, but the expectations at UK are generally related to the tournament.

 

I think most of the fan base would be pretty content with 10 loss regular seasons if they got it together and it the final four every 3-4 years.

 

If Tubby had made the final four twice out of 01, 03, 04, and 05 (the 1 and 2 seeds), most people would have been pretty happy.

 

You honestly believe that? I mean just look at what most UK fans have to say about Roy Williams as a coach. You always see UK fans talk about how Roy Williams cant get it done in the tournament when he has his own players. So you think those people would be happy to see UK just make the final four and then lose? I mean us UK fans are arrogant, and claim to have the greatest program in history. So people would be happy with being only a top 4 team and not the champion? I don't buy it. People would then being saying he can't get it done in the biggest games, or something like that. I mean basically your saying two games made the difference between people liking him or not liking him. I mean I would almost guarntee if we made the final four in 03 and 05 when we made the elite eight, and then still only got 8 seeds his last two years. That basically all the same people would have stil wanted him out. It just comes down to the fact that he was following Pitino, and in most peoples eyes he would never live up to him in peoples opinions. Tubby probably would have had to win another championship for people to have finally accepted him and wanted him here.

Yes. The difference in perception between an Elite 8 and Final Four is huge.

 

Making the tournament is like making a bowl game, but making the Final Four is a BCS bowl.

 

If you don't make the Final Four, you're not even really competing for a title.

 

People would definitely have been upset about the last two years, but having a Final Four with his own recruits would have helped for sure.

 

Now I agree if he made it 15 years, and only got back the Final Four, and never added a title, people would start to complain about not winning the big one. UK is all about titles.
